How does betting and getting called tell us where we are at?

No one said it did. But betting when we aren't sure where we're at is much better than calling and not being sure where we're at. Our hand is good enough that we should put out a little feeler bet to see what happens. We are betting to try to end the pot now and if we get called we will re-evaluate the turn.

50-50 bet/check. If you have a image you want to project, go that way.
Actually, I am leaning towards check. If guy in position bets, you act last. If he checks through, there are only a few bad turn cards (Ts, maybe 9s).

I would've said bet mindlessly until I realised that checking is more than possible here, and I think it's the best move, not only for reasons said above but for pot control.

It's my friend who likes taking $20 and turning it into a G (which he does a lot, although goes busto too a lot).
Meh if it's really this on the fence its not worth discussing.

I have experimented checking the flop more often on scary boards. Even in position against single opponents (unless passive as shit). In this case I would check and see what the turn brings and opp does.

i like betting as a semibluff whenever my hand figures to be good but i'm not sure if i can call a bet. This would be one of those times.

If your image is tagg and you c bet almost all the time then I think betting is good.
If your image is lagg and you don't c bet a whole lot then I think checking is best.
If you image is tagg with not much c betting or your image is lagg with a lot of c betting I don't know what to tell you.

Maybe I'm WAY off here, but I would bet 10-12. I don't want a J draw cheap and you I think you're still ahead of a lot of hands. Turn probably would be a check/fold.
On the other hand, I'm a C-betting maniac...

I check. No better hands are folding, and if you get called you still have no idea where you're at.

Who said anything about calling? Check with the intention of folding / betting a blank turn.
