This opponent is a fairly good, "solid" player. Fairly aggressive, but not overly so. He has a typical preflop reraising range, I think. What do you do here, and why?

I'll share the latter streets and results later.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Hero ($240)
CO ($388.05)
Button ($169.70)
SB ($182.65)
BB ($95.50)
UTG ($483.55)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 9, 8.
1 fold, Hero raises to $8, CO raises to $20, 3 folds, Hero calls $12.

Flop: ($43) Q, 8, 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $8, Hero ?

Call and scare the shit out of him or min raise to do the same. I go for the call in case he wants to be a tard and push your min raise.

Indeed, but the $8 bet alone says he's already scared shitless

I would call and see a turn.

The money is too deep and the donk factor is too low for me to want to raise here. Folding to that silly bet would be....well.... silly.

I would call and lead a blank turn for 2/3 pot. If the turn is a scare card, then check/fold. I would seriously think about folding preflop though. I'm not sure stacks are deep enough to justify a call here, but I could very well be wrong.

dsaxton - are you playing only 6-max now, or do you still play full ring? Do you find that 6-max is a lot more profitable? I'm wondering because I'm thinking of playing a lot more 6-max.

I have made more profit in the last week of 6max then I have in the previous months of sporadic full ring play. Mainly because other players give less credit for my bigger hands

Quoted for truth.

Although the Bodog game was probably comperably good.

So many players with HUGE holes in their game.

I think you have to put him on a hand in order to decide how to continue. What hands do you think this player will underbet on the flop like this?

bdawg56kg, if you are bored of full ring, give 6max a try. 6max is definately more profitable. That means the downswings are bigger also. If you can handle the swings and don't buckle under pressure, I would highly recommend 6max to you. If you like to multi-table full ring, I suggest starting out with no more than 2 6max tables. Playing 1 is the safest bet. Because you will be put to a lot of tough decisions, so almost every play is very read dependent.

After his preflop reraise, his likely hands are A-A, K-K, Q-Q or A-K. But his vast flop underbet was very suspcious, I thought. I was actually planning on check-raising all-in until he made this bet. It seemed obvious he was inviting a call, possibly from an unbeatable hand. I reasoned that since he would have at least some interest in winning the pot right away with an overpair, top set, or A-K high, and since his bet was clearly inviting a call, A-K of spades was his most likely hand. I thought my implied odds for hitting a 4 outter were enormous, so I called. The turn brought a miracle 8 of diamonds, and the rest of the hand was easy.

Hero ($240)
CO ($388.05)

SB ($182.65)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 9, 8.
1 fold, Hero raises to $8, CO raises to $20, 3 folds, Hero calls $12.

Flop: ($43) Q, 8, 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $8, Hero calls $8.

Turn: ($59) 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $20, Hero raises to $58, CO raises to $360.05, Hero calls $154 (All-In).

River: ($631.05) 6 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $631.05

Results in white below:
Hero has 9c 8c (full house, eights full of nines).
CO has As Ks (flush, ace high).
Outcome: Hero wins $483. CO wins $148.05.

that is why they make those small bets so people think it is weak. I usually look at it as strength expecially at smaller limits that i play.
