and getting slapped so far..........
i have been playing poker for 4 years now, exclusively mtts and sngs, with good success, particularly this year with mtt winnings topping 150k for 2007. now im ditching these to see if i can cut it playing 6 max nl 2/4. I am going to give it 6 months. one of the main reasons i am doing this is to become a better post flop player
having just completed my first pokertracker recorded 10000 hands, all played at 2/4 on i-poker network, and ive made some huge huge errors that im sure you regulars will find amusing -
1) i lost 4 full buy ins jamming all in pre with ak and getting bitch slapped each time by aa or kk
2) leaked over 5k in "over" defending my blinds and consequently playing oop too much
3)losing too much with TPTK
4)overplaying small flushes
the main thing i have learnt is discipline and patience, i started off way too fast, dropped 3k but have slowly clawed it back to break even. im hoping to post a small profit over my next 10000 hands, but who knows..............

1) This isn't bad, unless you know villain is a nit.
2) Just don't defend your blinds unless you feel the guy's getting carried away and you're ahead of his range. Until you're more comfortable. People too often overvalue blind defence on cash tables I think.
3) Post examples.
4) Not really a leak, just getting coolered, unless you're talking about a board with 4 cards of the same suit. Sometimes you can fold a small flush on the river, but not a lot of times other than that.

Four things you need to do: Push AK preflop a lot, defend your blinds way more, overvalue TPTK, overvalue small flushes.

i assume that if you are capable of making 150k in a year that isnt quite done yet, you are only playing 2/4 until you get a better grasp of it?

thanks and lol galapagos, good response with the exception of defence of blinds in mtts. i would recommend not defending your blinds much either in mtts. As a very broad bench mark, ill standard defend k10+ and pairs to C/O button and small blinds raises, from the middle stages of mtts. Overplaying out of the blinds is a big spew in mtts as well. ive lost 7k in the blinds now from 12000 hands (im 2.2k up though which im really pleased with as i expected to loseat this point)
thnks gabe and massimo for your replys, heres an example of me being a "blind" idiot for your enjoyment.
pls dont beat me up too much, i know this is terrible play.. i have been thinking about this hand and wondering what line a good cash game player takes here, ie how do i not lose 100bbs in this situation. my instincts actually told me i was beat when he raised me on the turn, but i couldnt help myself. lol.
i checked the flop for pot control, and i didnt really like the flop, there fore i decided i wanted to play a small pot here, but when he checked it to me twice, i felt i had to bet it for value, bla bla. this hand pisses me off, i feel could have got away from it. enjoy

I'd 3-bet bigger preflop, and then I wouldn't mind stacking off on this flop in a 3-bet pot bvb.

Also don't be afraid of 4-betting AK preflop and play for stacks. You're aggro enough that people will be 3betting you light. Although sometimes you can flat call it OOP and check it down for the win versus my QTo that I misread and didn't find a good spot to bluff with postflop

Your 3-bet should be bigger, 3.5x the initial bet is the rule of thumb (plus the amount of each limper)
For example at a 100NL table: Guy raises to $4, you reraise to $14. If there's a limper you would reraise to $18.
On that flop you definately want to be c-betting.
Also, you want to be more diligent in topping off your stack after any hand you lose money in.

As far as I know the chatbox hh is totally irrelevant and the hh that turns up in PokerTracker is the real deal, so your PT hands will work fine.

If the guy's unknown I would, the river counterfeighted any two pairs. Plus you shouldn't be too worried about a made hand because he checked the flop and turn to you. Of course he did have a hand here which sucks. You guys both played the hand kinda weird so it's hard to figure what anyone has.

1) Realy depends on who you are playing and how the hands where played. But my guess is that you as a MTT player overvalue AK preflop.
2) Compared to MTT the blinds are less important and position more important.
3) Once again it depends on how the hands where played, your image and theres. But as a general rule, people go less crazy with weak TP in cash games compared to MTT. So you need to have that in mind.
4) As said by others, depends if we are talking about a 3 card flush or 4 card.
Samples help.
As for the hand posted I agree with whats been said, you realy need to raise it more preflop. It alsow depends abit on how much you 3bet, if your tight about it, a small raise like that is even worse as your telling him that you got a big pair and then letting him draw for "free". He cant fold, odds or no odds, he hafto defend his raise to a small 3bet.
I have a rather loose 3betting range depending on who I'm playing (ofc). I'd make it something like 4 times preflop as he only made it 3BB. If he calls I'm stacking off aswell.
