Hi all. For the past few months (since, say late October), I've been playing fairly infrequently, mainly in games I'm overrolled for, without much feeling of purpose.
This isn't a "whine about my own inadequacy" post though. At least not explicitly. I've come to realize that I'm basically a nit when it comes to money (since I haven't ever really had much) and am most comfortable playing nl200 even though I could probably be making more money playing higher limits. There are lots of reasons for this but I've talked about those issues in a prior long-winded post, so no sense in going into that stuff now. This post is about poker and about motivation.
What I'm looking for is someone who wants to be a kind of partner with me on a journey through nl 6 max up to - hopefully - higher limits. I haven't played higher than nl200 in over 2 months even though I have about 140 buyins. I'm just too content at that game. FWIW I'm a 14.3 PTbb/100 winner lifetime at nl200.
Of course, most regulars play more in a month than I have in my online career, but suffice to say I feel very comfortable at nl200 6 max and don't feel that my winrate is simply the result of running hot. I am planning on withdrawing my roll down to somewhere around 10k and starting a limit-jumping project very soon (probably early February). I know that my best chance of successfully grinding (and not taking days off when I'm winning) is if someone else is journeying (gg cheesiness...) with me.
Ideally, this person would play similar games and hope to jump limits aggressively, enjoys talking a lot about HH's, and wouldn't mind sweating sessions from time to time. The most important part for me is to have someone to whom I feel responsible and that I respect, who will be pushing me out of my idle, overly content state. I feel pretty confident in saying that, in return, I will be a very good partner and will make myself available very frequently to sweat sessions/discuss HH, etc.
Obviously this is somewhat of a crapshoot and it's unlikely I'll just flat-out stumble onto the "right person" for this kind of thing. I already know a couple people who would probably be willing to embark on this kind of project and are awesome ppl and very good poker players, but the simple fact that I already know them makes it more likely that we feel more casual about all of this. I'm hoping to take this very seriously and I find it's usually easier to do that when you're not already buddies with somebody.
If this sounds like it could interest you, plz send me a PM. Thx.

Not to rain on your parade, but do you really think 14.3 PTBB/100 is sustainable? Over how many hands is that? I'm only asking because it makes me feel under-ambitious.
Given that you're aiming for higher limits, what sort of sustainable winrate are you looking from them?

i would love to do it but i cannot guarantee my ability to be extensively available because i am under a lot of pressure to do well academically this semester
overall, you sound a lot like me and i want to embark on a similar journey (1/2 to like 5/10) asap
ive had success over like 20k hands at 2/4 but like you i become slightly uncomfortable with the volume of money involved at stakes above 1/2 and i would like to overcome that
anyway i probably wouldnt satisfy what youre looking for until mid-may and im sure you want to get started sooner and i encourage you to do so

My bankroll is the amount of money I would spend or lose before I got a job. It is calculated by adding my net worth to whatever I can borrow.

re : jo
I don't know what kind of winrate is sustainable to be honest. I think generally, anything approaching 4-5 ptbb/100 is considered crushing the game. I've run super-hot and feel very comfortable with the player pool at Party nl200 but to aim for winrates seems kind of counterproductive since you can't really control it.
I only posted the winrate to give an idea of the results I've had over my small sample. I only have 42k hands recorded on pokertracker (nl100, 200 and 400) and have prob logged about another 15-20k hands before I got pokertracker so take the results for what they're worth : a hot run while playing well over a small-medium sample.
I'm not too worried about the sustainability of a winrate. Lol I doubt 14ptbb/100 is sustainable though , although if you pick your tables right, something around 10ptbb/100 is definitly possible at nl200 imo.

Oh good. I know you shouldn't put too much stock in winrates, but it is an easy way to compare how you're doing to other players.
I'm in a similar situation to you actually. Over-rolled for the 200 (by a similar amount) with a good winrate over a large sample, and probably ought to move on.
With me, its not so much the money issue thats preventing me moving up (poker is just a hobby for me). Rather its the lack of stability over the last few months (I've had to change sites a few times, and there's the question of how the recent legislation will affect the games). Its tough for me to determine what my edge is. I feel that while I'm improving, the games are also getting tough, so I'm not sure my edge is improving. I think I'm going to wait for the dust to settle before taking a crack at the 400.

haha
I stand by what I wrote!
As much as the condescending/flamy tone at 2p2 is revolting, the wealth of experienced players posting at mid and highstakes is incredible if you can sift through the ppl who are just making "look at me" replies.

I'm at exact same place.
Overrolled. Beating Party 200NL, wanna be 2/4NL soon
I'm currently in US and playing on us sites. This has helped my game some as the games are soemwhat tougher IMO.
I'd like to discuss this further if you are interested in me as a partner.
