Let's pretend you're Hero. I'm Villain, and a complete unknown to you. It's my very first hand at the table.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

saw flop|saw showdown

Hero is UTG ($100.05)
MP ($294.64)
Button ($103.65)
SB ($101.65)
Villain is BB ($100)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A, Q. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
Hero raises to $4, 3 folds, Villain raises to $12, Hero calls $8.

Flop: ($24.50) 7, 9, Q (2 players)
Villain bets $20, Hero calls $20.

Turn: ($64.50) 7 (2 players)
Villain bets $68 (All-In), Hero ???

You have JJ or TT. When i only call the flop bet you put me on missed overs or a smaller PP. Your trying to take it donwn now before the presumed over hits the river.

since we have no reads on him, I would assume that he is just an overaggro donk and has not/will not be here for very long. otherwise we would have some PT stats on him. Also the fact that he has 3bet us pf without seeing us play a hand and has no idea of our playing style/range further makes me think that he is the aforementioned donk.

I feel that the range of hands that he would do this with is just too wide, especially given that we just called the flop bet. You should see AK/KQ/JJ enough here to make this a profitable call IMO.

Yeah i call too, the line is so unusual it makes you look like a donk. And that 7 pairing just took 77 probably out of the mix.

I think we need to decide this pre-flop and on the flop.

I used to muck this pre-flop. Still do quite often, although I'm a sucker for seeing flops with 2 big suited cards against light re-raises OOP.

I didn't even consider the rest of the action.

If I'm in a gambooling mood I call pf, prepared to stack off with TP. If I'm not stacking off on this flop, then I fold pre.

How would we normally expect a non-donk villain to play an overpair here?

call imo.... don't play AQ preflop in a 3bet pot if your unsure of what do here. Don't forget, you are crushing AK lol.

Yeah I know, but usually you'll miss and have to fold.. other times you have no idea where you're at because he might just be a nit who started off with a big hand.. 1 or 2 orbits and I'll have a much clearer idea what I'm up against. If he really is a maniac, hopefully we'll get him later.. I have only 4BB invested so far so who cares..

Thank you! All the posts leading up to this had me thinking I had missed some great new development in the poker world.

Are the games that aggressive elsewhere that you would call an OOP reraiser from an unknown at 100NL with AQs? I hope you yanks never get that bill beat. I think I'm gonna get my ass handed to me when you all find your way off Pokerstars and FullTilt.

Anyway, if everyone insists on calling preflop I think you should be ready to stack off with TPTK post flop. So call.

Some divided opinions, I see.

I was curious, 'cause I was wondering how much this being Villain's first hand at the table might influence Hero's decision when I (Villain) pushed here.

Personally, I think I'd have a hard time mucking pre (like, probably never) in Hero's shoes but might find a grudging fold somewhere in here sometimes, might stack off at other times if I felt gambly, so I guess Hero's call wasn't so bad.

Villain's (my) AA held, btw. Nice way to start to a session
