First orbit, no reads. I felt like I was only beating a bluff or a really oddly played pocket pair on the river.

I think I call here against an unknown. I would expect to lose a lot of the time but Im sure you will see busted clubs\smaller overpair here > 25%. If he has us beat it means that he called a flop raise and then check called the turn (with two pos flush draws) with either TP or a slowplayed trips. The only hands that make sense for a (not tricky) good player is 77,22. Also people probably wont try to bluff you after that hand if you call

I hear you but his river bet size seemed like a "call me my hand actually got better" bet, but I guess like you said the worse hands add to at least 25% without a better read...and maybe it is good for metagame.

edit.

When he goes from passive calling station to Mr. Active Betting Guy on the river, I fold even getting 3:1. Action on this hand does not make me feel like I'm winning 1/4 of the time.

that's what I was thinking after the hand - I expect maybe to be ahead 10-15%...anyone else think it's worth a call though?

I dont think the chances of him bluffing the river with a busted club draw (or an overpair for that matter) are very big. His bet size is odd for a bluff, looks like a valuebet. I fold this mofo because a hand like 7x (or even 2x) fits perfectly into his range.
