MP is loose/passive. Seen him limp Q3s UTG, but he's also folded quite a bit pre-flop.

3rd hand I've raised this orbit, folding only 1 in between. The prior two were KTo when he limped into my BB (I won a modest pot but missed a river bet), and J9s from the button (doubled through someone who thought AT was the nuts on a A99T board.) So I might have an aggro image here.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

BB ($231.05)
UTG ($236.40)
MP ($138.85)
Fnord ($462)
Button ($197)
SB ($284.45)

Preflop: Fnord is CO with A, K.
1 fold, MP calls $2, Fnord raises to $8, 2 folds, BB calls $6, MP calls $6.

Flop: ($25) A, 9, 8 (3 players)
BB checks, MP checks, Fnord bets $16, BB folds, MP calls $16.

Turn: ($57) 8 (2 players)
MP checks, Fnord bets $30, MP raises to $114.85, Fnord folds.

Final Pot: $201.85

Villain's semi-short stackedness would prod me into calling his allin raise here. There is just something fishy about someone calling bottom pair on the flop, after facing a reraise and continuation bets. I have a hard time believing him, especially in that it could be in response to your weak flop and turn bets.

I probably pot both the flop and turn here with guns blazing, then wonder how I lost the hand...

i think your bet sizes are great because you're getting decent value from hands you beat but that still might call and don't want to chase out, but at the same time allow you to get away from his push like that.

against a maniac you check/push turn or check/call with a river open push. but against the passive you have to give him the chance to push over the top of you like that because it's an opportunity he won't take unless he really likes his hand.

nh.
In answer to your question... it depends...

BTW, 2 hands ago it went down like this:

He limps from the BB, I raise to $6 with KT, he calls.
Flop comes something like 984, I bet, he calls.
Turn is a T, I bet, he calls.
River is an 8, checked through. A4o no good.

yikes I was gonna question the fold but based on that last hand you played this certainly seems like turned trips. nh. ppl who play that passively usually aren't aware of disguising the strength of their hands.
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?
