My opponent thought the play sucked and went on, and on, and on ...
If I knew I was outkicked, I wouldn't have played the way I did (obviously), but I saw the $15 bet on the turn as a scared money bet and translated that to an A, small kicker hand, which is why I check raised.
Opponent was aggressive preflop when he played and got more passive after the flop with calls and checks.
So, would you have played the hand this way?

What did you put him on? He doesnt make a bet on the turn with KK or QQ (if he had KK or QQ he'd like to see as cheap a showdown as possible), and there arent really any other hands that would reraise you pre-flop that dont involve an ace with a better kicker than yours.

After the reraise preflop and the smooth call on the flop, I thought maybe AK or AA, which is why I checked the turn. When he bet $15 on the turn, it struck me as a bet that would be made by someone with A and a good kicker, but not great (like AT). But I guess it was a bet that he thought I would call with a worse hand.
I guess the poker gods decided it was time to to send "suckout luck" my way, after burning me so many times at the $100 tables.

He was betting 15$ on the turn because he put you on QQ KK or A with a crappier kicker and wanted to take all your money, but not scare you off. Basically he was slow-playing.
