Yea he was trying to cheat you. Fortuenetly you won a big pot but you coulda got more if he woulda folded. I think you really shouldve made a value bet though, maybe $20 and he wouldve called or raised. Sucks when people do that to you though.

Definetly report him too.

I don't understand, it looks like the pot is right so what did he do (besides not call the river bet) to make this suspicious. Was it just that he got to see your holdings? Just wondering.

If Smack had held A3, our villian would have won the $56 pot. Basically, he used this to check and make sure he didn't have the best hand without giving up his stake in the pot or wagering any more. Almost the same thing as if I hosted a home game and told someone "no, since I think I might win this, but I'm not sure, you're not allowed to bet this river. Take your $50 back, you're only allowed to check."

We appreciate you taking the time to report situations of alleged Disconnect
Protection abuse at PartyPoker.com.

Starting with the hand that you sent to us, we performed an investigation that
would allow us to examine thoroughly the account "miAmihAns" in question;

We have looked into this player's records and collected all previous hands in
which this player used the protection. Our goal was to look for a pattern where
the player usually disconnects in key moments.

Some of the parameters we use when investigating possible protection abuse:

* The player's cards at the time of disconnection.
* The player's previous action (whether he was betting / raising) and also the
actions of the other players at the time of disconnection.
* The benefit obtained by a player disconnecting
* The timing of disconnection A player's pattern of disconnections Previous
allegations made by other players and/or the system

Using the information listed above we have investigated the history of the
player thoroughly and have found that not only was the hand you reported
suspicious but this player has shown a pattern of suspicious disconnects in the
past. Based on this information we have taken away the disconnect protection
privilege for this player.
In the event he is disconnected in the future his
hand will be folded. We have sent an email to the player informing him of the
investigation.

We thank you for taking the time to report your suspicions. Keeping the games
honest is our highest priority. If you need any clarifications or have any
questions or concerns please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy
to assist you.

Sincerely,

Chintan Shah

Nice to see a good response from PartyPoker.
They know they can't afford to be soft on these guys.

You probably saved some other people money too, so good job!
Note: new guy and very open to constructive criticism, so go ahead and weigh in! I'm here to learn.

That's great. I reported a disconnect before and was rebuffed, so it's encouraging that Party really does seem to be doing their homework on these.

Like Party's reply mentioned they have to have a history of abuse before they will take action. If you feel cheated and don't feel vindicated because your complaint didn't result in any action, don't worry. If they get reported again, then there is a better chance that action will be taken because of your prior complaint. I never took the time to eport suspicious activity because I felt it wasn't worth the time or that it wouldnt result in any action. It is worth it though and it's utimately a benefit to the thousands of others that play fairly. So to reitterate doggz PR anouncement, take the time to report.

Yeah, they usually do. I got that same e-mail when I reported this guy named Killbell on PP.

It's nice when they actually do something, isn't it?
I am a HUGE Houston Texans homer. They can do no wrong.

Hi all, just reading along there. I got quite confused. Is there some form of insurance for people playing at a higher level? I've never seen a disconnected player gain any benefit before, they just check/fold.

Just wondering. Nice hand though, excellent

It should be at all levels. If they disconnect, they have "disconnect-protection" which allows them to not have to forfeit the money they already put in the pot by disconnecting. It had an intent in the right place: don't screw the people on dial-up that get disconnected 'cause they might have a good hand that they don't want to fold. It's just when asshats abuse it like this that problems arise.

i don't know about partypoker, but at certain other sites, all you have to do is let the timer run out to get the protection. you don't have to physically disconnect your modem. i tried it a total of one time just to see what would happen. i have seen others abuse this like crazy.

just saw it the other day, got the same e-mail saying they're taking away kingnip1's disconnect-protect. I don't know how these people think they'll get away with it. 10 dollar flop bet, 20 dollar turn bet, Ace hit on the river and there's a 60 dollar bet and oh..... so conveniently i'm just going to disconnect and oh how wonderful you didn't have the ace and i win.... hope nobdoy notices.
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch

what the hell does this have to do with shorthanded strategies? Allin disconnects are also 10 person ring game strategies for some people.

A couple of thoughts on disconnections

1. I got disconnected from UB one time and it was during raise situation on the river. When I got back to the game my opponent was really ticked and accused me of cheating. The other guys quickly ragged on me. I asked what he lost, and he told me and I transfered it to his account.

He thought I was just talking until he got it and said -- "you did transfer it, sorry man..." . I said it was the only way to prove that my disconnect was legit.

2. When I was having internet problems my disconnections would always seem to come when there was multi-betting raising in a pot. Perhaps some techy guys would know why this is (maybe information transfer is peaking). Anyway, I had LOST my fair share of money by being disconnected. So, it goes both ways. If you have a monster hand you get none of the $ put in after the disconnect. I just quit playing til I got a new ISP.

I've got a new ISP now and all is OK, but I just wanted to point out that when a person is NOT really cheating, they can get hosed on disconnects too. As far as the cheaters go, they should offer to tranfer funds or get reported. Anyone who had a legit disconnect will gladly transfer the funds if they have any morals.
Gone golfing ..see ya in the Fall of 2006
PS. What did the snail on the turtle's back say?
