I feel like I don't always make the right decision in these situations (even though it usually doesn't matter much what you do). It's shorty's first hand at the table and he's probably just some guy that's ready to gamble. What hands do you call with here? I'm thinking something like any pair, any ace that I raised with (I don't usually raise ace-garbage on the button), and KQ, but maybe that's too tight?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (3 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

BB ($40)
Hero ($314.65)
SB ($174)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 2 cards.
Hero raises to $8, 1 fold, BB raises to $40, Hero?

ATo+, A8s+, 44+, KQ
My bankroll is the amount of money I would spend or lose before I got a job. It is calculated by adding my net worth to whatever I can borrow.

My range would be ATo+, A9s+, 88+

I think KQ wouldn't show a profit in the long term. For the pocket pairs i'd like to have at least a medium PP to have him badly dominated with the smaller PPs.

Genitruc is an unknown quantity at this point
The 1st time he does it I prob lay down every thing below 77+ and AJ+

Each time he does it (within a short period of time) my standards will drop a little...
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

im with genitruc, its not a massive mistake to make a weak fold here the first time he does it, and its much less of a mistake than making a 25/75 call.

I usually end up adding KQ into my range, depending.

call with anything you raised with. if that sounds wrong, then raise less hands with shorty in BB.

this is the type of spot u want to open limp 22

I actually like to keep raising light

After I've folded 2-3 times most shorties just stop pushing (since they now know they're risking 10-15bb to win 3) or they "slowplay" their 88 or AK or whatever they push with by just calling.

If you're gonna do the open-limp thing I think it's best to keep it to low pocket pairs.

Doing it with suited connectors (even the god of all hands -J10s!!!) is kind of a waste since you hit the flop big even less than w pp's and you're not gonna make a killing if the shorties stack off anyways.

I like Genitruc's thoughts, and I agree totally with Gabe here. I definitely tighten up on the button/CO when there's a shorty to my left. I hate it, but it's something you've got to do.

That said, sometimes (not very often, only on certain tables and in certain situations) I'll call the push with a semi-decent hand and hope to suck out. Win or lose I'm doing this in hopes that my table image will go to absolute dogshit and I can work that to my advantage for bigger pots later.
