Villain new to table.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (4 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Hero ($93.20)
Button ($28.75)
SB ($47.30)
BB ($55.05)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 7, 6.
Hero calls $0.50, Button calls $0.50, 1 fold, BB checks.

Flop: ($1.75) 8, Q, 5 (3 players)
BB bets $1.5, Hero raises to $4, Button folds, BB calls $2.50.

Turn: ($9.75) 6 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $5, BB raises to $16, Hero ??

smells like a set, which means my flush has one less out. He's definitely calling a push. If he does have a set, we're a 2-1 dog.

Do you think I should have checked Turn in hopes to see river cheaply? Villain liked his hand enough on flop to lead a call a re-raise, so perhaps I should have proceeded with more caution after a turn blank (i.e., we likely have no fold equity for this bet, so are we just raising a pot for no reason after whiffing?

It seems a Check-Call would have been the best option on turn.

Does anyone here call?

as played, I think you have to call. This is an odd way for the villian to play any hand.

It could be a draw, check-raising a semi-scary card since you're repping a tpgk sort of hand here.

It could be a flopped set, but if he's going to lead out with a set on the flop, why just flat call the raise?

He could have hit something like Q6 or 86, in which case you still have to call here, even though he's not likely to pay anything off.

All in all, pot odds dictate a call. You can't get much in on the river with three non-nut draws (don't forget 2-pair or trips), but we still have to call here.

ok, I definitely blew this hand. I ended up folding but you guys are right I do have odds to call. At the time I thought I was 2.5-1 dog but it's closer to 2, and we're probably playing for stacks here so straight pot odds are prolly out the door.

Guess I've been playing a bit too tight, but folding in spots I'm not sure about has saved me a lot of money. My BR used to flucuate a lot, but now it's just steadily rising for the first time. I suppose it was only $11 more to play for his whole stack and I should have called. He probably doesn't have me on a flush considering my big flop re-reraise.
