The results aren't shown here, but villain called with A-Q (?). Evidently $80 is not too much when all you can beat is a bluff.

Or a maniac completely overplaying 2 pair.
To him, he has the best hand and is trying to milk you for what he can get.
You gave it to him.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Even if the river is 8s, he's probably not laying it down. This isn't a good spot for a move. He called your flop raise and still led out 4th and 5th. How do you know he doesn't have a boat himself?

Trying to put moves on complete idiots has been my biggest leak by far. This board is a pretty tough place to pull a move agianst most people who will call hoping for a split. It seems impossible to get people to fold overpairs let alone one card 8th nut OMG DUDE STR8!!'s

Your donk-speak translation skills need some tuning.
Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9 , J . SB posts a blind of $1.
Hero calls $2, 3 folds, SB (poster) raises to $3 (I have 2 pretty good cards, no clue about big bet poker and think I'm raising for value), 1 fold, Hero calls $2.
Flop: ($10) 8 , T , J (2 players)
SB bets $2 (I still suck and probably don't have much), Hero raises to $8, SB calls $6 (I refuse to fold anything with a chance, particularly with cards to come).
Turn: ($26) 9 (2 players)
SB bets $10 (I probably improved, although I'm donkish enough that you never really can be sure), Hero calls $10.
River: ($46) 8 (2 players)
SB bets $20 (I mean it, this is a pretty strong value bet from a guy who lead $2 on the flop)

Looking back at this hand, this was somewhat of an absurd bluff on my part. It's probably not a good idea to attempt to bluff someone off a straight, especially a loose passive player, since you'll usually have to risk an amount grossly disproportionate to what you expect to win (if it's even possible to win).

Ok, I have to ask. So be nice to me. What makes you think he doesnt have 88, giving him four 8's?
