This guy was 22/4, I'd generally consider him fairly solid. i was pretty loose aggressive, he could put me on a lot. I felt i was ahead after the flop, confirmed on the turn and after his river check. Do i value bet the river, and for how much?

He probably has Axs and only called the turn because he had a flush plus inside str8 draw. He probably won't call much if anything. Maybe just throw out 1/3 pot because I think 1/2+ he will fold.

i bet 6 and he called with 88. he criticized me afterward saying i'm only getting called if i'm beat most of the time. i liked it.

Note: Tries to play well. Bit of a table coach. Preaches big or bluff? river play.

I like a value bet here, and your bet here was perfect. If he has a seven he's going to pay you off, if he felt you were bluffing with like AK he is going to pay off another small bet with 33, 66, or 88 (the rest of the small pairs made sets, but given his action a set is almost impossible). I don't see how the jack could help him unless he was on a flush draw with AJ suited or something of the like. A small bet like this is perfect though, he has to call with almost anything getting such a good price. Well played.

hold on.
is that 'you' as in me? or as in this hand.

the best thing as a laggy player imo is to have a couple of people willing to call you down on raggedy looking flops or messy/dangerous flops because they have a part of it. Its then value bet time.
Whaeva opp has here it is made, the turn tells us that (or else hes a chaser aginst a lagg, which is even better) which means im always looking for value on the river here because i aint bluffing.
We need to see a post i think from some good laggy players who get the most out of decent holdings in these sorts of situations. This is the most straight forward value bet i can see unless opp has called with TT/JJ or called down with Jx. Jx is so unlikely, but OMG good! while playing an overpair as such against a lagg just asks for a player to be stacked or pushed off a better hand.
