Which statement best describes the truth.

Position is as important in 6max as in full ring.
Position is not as important in 6max as in full ring.
Position means crap in 6max.

Is playing the button too aggressive -EV?
Like say it's folded to you, you raise on the button (with virtually any 2 cards) in hopes of stealing the pot on the flop with a continuation bet.

Or you call an EP raise with a mediocre hand on the button just because you have position. Example of a mediocre hand would be A6s.

The reason for asking this is because I've been treating position in 6max as I would in a full ring game. Maybe I use position too much. I like to play the button a lot. Have I just discovered a leak in my game?

What are your opinions on the statements I've made?

In 6 max position is everything. I often times will raise with crap on the button or the CO. I don't like to be calling many raises though, regaurdless of position. In 6 max you always want to be the aggressor. I try to be the one raising and not the one calling. When you just call you lose control of the hand. Also, you should be very tight from the blinds. I hate calling raises OOP with a marginal hand.

And to answer your question, position is much more important in 6 max than in full ring. In full ring you need to play tighter because there's a good chance somebody has a big hand on any given deal. In 6 max, there are plenty of deals where nobody is dealt anything, so being the aggressor and picking up a lot of small pots is something you should try and do.

Position and aggression combined with reads. I would call with A6s against certain opponents, against certain opponents I toss AQs. depends Occasionally I try to steal with nothing, sometiems I dont, mix it up.

I don't steal with complete garbage such as Q4 or J2 but hands with hidden potential such as 57, 89 etc are an easy raise from the button against an average table.

I raise any suited connector down to 56s if I think I can have position on the flop.

I always throw a contiuation bet after the flop, I usually make a pot size or 3/4 pot size bet regardless of what flops. I only do this in heads up situations. I mean the point of raising on the button with a hand like 56s is to hope you can steal on the flop, or even better flop something good. Do you guys usually cbet if it's checked to you? Or again, is this something that is based on reads etc.

I'll always cbet with 56s or w/e if I totally miss the flop since that's the only way I can win. Now if I miss with AK I might check since AK unimproved can win in a showdown fairly often in 6max. It would depend on my opponent.

I generally try to show down my ace high hands to let people know that I'm not going to fire at the pot every time regaurdless of whether or not I hit. If I raise on the CO with a marginal hand and get called by the button I generally don't c-bet in that situation. If somebody is going to call me from the BB every time I raise and fold to a c-bet then so be it, I'll rob them all night.
