Do you call this against a LAGG?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

BB ($88.75)
UTG ($50)
MP ($27.50)
Hero ($49.75)
Button ($48.50)
SB ($89.95)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q, J.
2 folds, Hero raises to $2, 1 fold, SB calls $1.75, 1 fold.

Flop: ($4.50) 9, J, 9 (2 players)
SB bets $2, Hero calls $2.

Turn: ($8.50) 8 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($8.50) 5 (2 players)
SB bets $6, Hero...

You're literally only losing to a boat, trips obv bet the turn. So easy call.

Genitruc is an unknown quantity at this point
if he's a decent lagg he usually has trips or crap so it depends on how he's playing at this table

edit : Iowa you don't think trips slow down OOP on the turn vs possible 8 10 / Q10?
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

I'd call if I thought he was floating, and should probably fold otherwise but usually call anyway after checking the turn.

Why not bet this turn and then check behind on the river? If you are raised on the turn you have an easy fold. At least with this line you can more easily interpret your opponents actions and aren't giving free cards.

Is it a leak that I make this call all day?

I don't mind checking through the turn, for pot control. If we bet the turn, we may get called or raised off our hand. Checking through, to call a river bet, invests the same amount of money, but we see a showdown.

If you get raised on the turn, you fold confident you're beat.

I agree with griffey here. Checking behind on the turn guarantees us a showdown for the same amount of money. Being confident that you are beat and folding isn't as good as being beat with a showdown; there's the small percentage of retarded bluffs and such that we're gonna have value over.

I don't think at 50NL opp is going to get that tricky, he'd probably bet hard. With a boat it's reasonable for him to think yay lets hope a straight hits.

I agree that if we got raised, we would certianly know we were beat. But how is that better than being unsure about where we stand with our river call, but getting to see a showdown for the same price?

You guys are forgetting the fact that a turn bet also induces opponent to check the river most of the time, at which point you can simply show the hand down.

A turn check mostly just benefits the player who is behind, giving him a free card and showdown with a hand like J-T that would've called a bet on the turn. Also, you'd prefer not to give a free card to pocket pairs that will only give additional action if they spike a miracle on the river.

I disagree...after I check this sort of turn, I frequently get action from worse on the river ranging from any pocket pair (not just miracle sets) to missed gut shots.
It can also help make opps more passive/predictable, knowing that I (sometimes) check stuff on the turn that can call or raise on the river.
