I just had an idea I want to bounce off a few of you guys,

There's a few regs in my games who fold a ton to 3bets. I would consider a ton to be 70% of the time plus. Anyways, I reraise these guys liberally with a polarized range. They fold a lot and sometimes we get it in preflop with AA vs KK or AK vs AK or whatever. Standard shit.

I got thinking though, I'm kinda wasting my monsters by reraising these guys because they fold preflop to my 3bets so much when I have QQ+, AK.. so what if I started flatting preflop IP with big hands and play postflop with deception. And I can still pick up lots of pots preflop by reraising them with J4s or whatever trash.

I thought about this more and then I realised that this plan would make their 4bets very effective (because I never shove over them) and this would bring down the EV of the overall strategy somewhat.

So, my new plan is to reraise them with trash and AA/KK/QQ/AQ etc and to flat AK to their raises in position. AK is not difficult to play postflop without initiative as long as I make some moves (I have 6 outs so no big deal). The major effect of this however is that when they 4bet me preflop and we get it in against their QQ+/AK range they think that they have big equity against my range when infact they are making a huge mistake because my 3bet/get it in range doesn't include AK.

Thoughts?

Sorry it turned out so long.

the reason you balance your range is because if they catch on, its easy to adapt. if you think they'll never catch on, then keep owning them

Ok so to expand a little in a way that will help gabes WPP,

when people say shit like 'you need to balance your range there' that is correct and attempting the balancing thing will mean that I will be more profitale in that particular spot than if I was to only ever be value betting (or bluffing) every time the spot arose. YES/NO?

There is a particular frequency mixture between vale betting and bluffing at which my opponent is making a mistake whether he calls or folds? YES/NO?

Assuming the above is correct, although it would be impossible to bet with the exact frequency I refer to in my above question, the closer I can come to that theoretical value the more profitable I will be. YES/NO?

Even more profitable then betting with the perfect frequency would be if I was to value bet 100% of the time in a particular spot until my opponent chaught on to what was happening and at that exact instant I switch my strategy so that I am now bluffing 100% of the time in the aforementioned spot. When he catches on again I adjust again. YES/NO?

Quick question about your last paragraph.. "when he catches on" means he plays correctly and probably stacks you once doesn't it? (Because catching on to a 100% bluff strategy means calling you down). Is this really what we want?

Well the optimal thing would be for me to make my switch just before he decides to call me down. However that's an extremely difficult thing to do obviously. I guess if I get stacked once, adjust and then stack him more than once because he's still confused then I show a profit right?

theres a good thread on 2p2 about this.

what he doesnt consider in the original post is that we dont always know what our perceived range is, thats when its good to balance
