Taipan offered to sit in on a $6.50 with me, and we ended up HU at the end. I figure it might make interesting reading. I think the major point to take away is that Taipan knew I'd call tight so loosened his range up a lot. I played much the same style I normally would v's people who will normally start callilng loose after a while playing HU.

bsjaust: Looked pretty good overall, the only problem I had was the last hand when you called Tai's shove with A5. I think this was very loose considering you've got 10 blinds left; not sure what the lowest Ace you can call with is, but I don't think the 5 kicker is good enough in this spot.

True, but I know Taipan likes to abuse his big stack power, so he's got a fairly wide range on this one.

Zachaser, folding an ace heads up with 10 BB is really bad against good players. If you're folding there then your opponent can shove any two cards and make a huge profit. I'd call that with K5 let alone A5.

Guys, it's really cool to see both of your hands like this. I wish the hands were numbered so it'd be easier to refer to them.

Hand 3 - I probably re-steal with the K9.
Hand 5 - I'd raise 56o from the button he's folding enough for it to be +EV.
Hand 8 - Raise 97o from the button.
Hand 11 - I'd call with the K2o against a good player, it's close though.
Hand 12 - Definitely shove J6s with 10 BB.
Hand 14 - Shove J7s.
Hand 16 - I doubt a good player like taipan is going to fall for you limping a big hand when you've been folding your button so many times. He'd be more likely to shove against a guy who'd limped every time.
Hand 20 - This is close but I'd shove the 24s.
Hand 26 - Shove J9o for sure, this fold is really bad.

Rest of them look fine to me but you're missing a decent number of shoves bj. With <10 BB I'd start with any pair, any ace, king, queen, any suited jack or ten, any two cards six and higher, and the suited connectors 54s+, 64s+. You can add in even more hands if they're too tight. Also, taipan can speak for himself but it doesn't really look like he loosened his shoving range against you. I didn't see any shoves by him that shouldn't be shoves against anyone.

You play too tight and just generally suck at HU poker. Read HoH and donk off some money playing some HU SnGs.

K9o is an easy call Heads-up.
97o is an easy call from the button.
The A2o hand is really silly, L2P post-flop.
J6s otb fold is silly
Same with J7s
Calling with AJs when you've been just raising or folding will rarely get good action
LoL @ A2s again
J9 is an easy push with the chip lead and huge blinds.

In general, for Heads-up you should be playing a lot of hands. Getting over 3:1 immediate on your money and with position on every post-flop betting round HoH argues that any hand is worth at least completing your SB. I'm somewhere around 90% and tighten up a bit if the other guy is in push/fold mode. I like to balance limping vs raising ranges and mix it up a bit. Hence, I'm more likely to get action limping a strong hand because my opponent will get a little aggro when I limp because he'll see I tend to do that with weaker hands.

With shallow money 20bb or less any 2 cards Nine or higher are gold and you should often felt as little as middle pair because with all of the aggression going on the pot will be offering too good of a price by the time you figure out it's no good. 56o and 56s are trash hands. Think pairs when the money isn't deep and be willing to back them up with your stack.

Eventually someone is going to run into a hand and you just want to make sure you're in there gambling it up instead of just folding away all your money. Even if you pushed *every* hand, you're still not that big of a dog.

OK maybe calling with K5 is a little too loose but I'd be calling for sure with any pair, any ace, any king except the ones with really small kickers, any two broadway, plus a couple more suited non-broadway hands like Q9 Q8s J9s.

By the way the best thing for people to do would be to sit down with PokerStove and figure these things out for themselves. First off, think about what your shoving range is, and then figure out what hands you should call with if you were playing against yourself. Then go back and see whether you should be shoving more or less, assuming the calling range you just came up with. Really getting your own hands dirty with the math is the best way to improve your heads-up game instead of hoping people on the forum tell you what to do.

I'd agree with that. Post-flop game to me consists largely of hitting a big hand and extracting maximum value (or minimising losses if I'm concerned). I really dont have much experience with post-flop play when I'm calling loose (i.e., most of its been full ring or early in SnGs).

Even in my SnG experience, I've rarely made it to HU with blinds this low before, and rarely so evenly stacked, generally either I or villian are short. So HU to me has laregly consisted of push/fold poker.

I really appreciate all the advice, going to run through it all a bit closer.

I'm about to clear a $50 bonus so maybe I'll dedicate some of that to some HU play.

I just finished HoH 1 (some of the 'interesting' hands I've posted recently have been prompted by his looser riskier suggestions more aimed at MTTs than STTs). I've just started HoH2, so hopefully I'll get some good advice out of that.

My assumption was that Taipan wasnt going to put up with much limping, but yeah, I should have tried a few more times at least.

Thanks for advice guys, I was working on a very basic and obviously too tight approach of only playing Qx+ and PPs. I obviously need to loosen that up a bit, I guess the reason I havnt is that I've been called VERY loose at times in other games, so tend to play tightish so when called I generally have the best hand.
