Lately I've been working a lot on opening up in CO and BU trying to abuse my position on other players.
Something I've been toying with lately is raising 3x in the button instead of the "standard" 4x. I've thought of a couple reasons this might be good.
1) Because I'm betting so often (and obv often with mediocre hands) I expect to get looked up a little more often, so I'm risking a little less each time I'm hoping to take down the blinds, which leads to...
2) So far people who fold to steals for 4x seem to fold just about as often to 3x, again making my steals less risky and building smaller pots when called with weakish hands.
3) It seems that betting a little smaller should encourage people to play against me in raised pots while oop a little more.
My problem is that these seem to conflict with each other. They can't fold to steals as often while still playing me oop more often.
Or is this all something that will have pretty close to the same EV and really isn't worth worrying about?
Also, I'm still raising 4x in CO without a nit behind me.
I guess I'm not really sure what my question is. I'm really looking more for a little discussion, or again to know if it's not worth the time to bother thinking about this.
fwiw, I'm playing 50nl right now, but generally considering how this plays from 25nl-100nl.

just raise the same from everywhere, you dont want players to even know you are aware of position. there are two different ways to look at it so it evens out to raising evenly. you either want to punish players when you are playing EP or you want them to call more because your range is so good. or you either want to inflate the pot when you are in position or you want them to play looser when you are in position. it pretty much evens out to raising the same from every position.

Anyone who knows enough to pay attention to which villains are positionally aware will know pretty quickly that I am positionally aware regardless of my bet sizing. I'm pretty much a nitty tag in EP and I try to be much more of a maniac in CO and BU. It's a pretty big difference that should stand out to those paying attention.

i think it largely depends on who is in the blinds and what stakes you play at. if you have a two 3 betting monkeys in the blind i definitely would recommend opening 3x. i open 3x from LP, and 4x from EP. what i was doing was 3.5x from everywhere, but i dont think this is a good idea honestly, because regardless, most players arent going to be 3 betting you light when you raise EP, and are mostly going to be calling. whereas when you raise CO and BU, then blinds will be 3 betting all sorts of shit. idk it just felt like i was losing more money doing it.

I just open for 3x everywhere in most games. In looser games I should consider adjusting up to 4x. THIS IS A STICK UP GIMMIE YOUR BLINDS.

I start off with 4x UTG and UTG+1 and 3.5x (lazy mans bet pot button) elsewhere, but adjust based on the game.
