Villan is 52/30 over small 20 hand sample. This is an auto fold or is a call that bad?

I am pretty new to the cash game but I would have folded pre. But as played seems spewy to me. My guess is he is ahead already with a pair ( possibly an over pair). And it isn't beyond the rhealm of reason that he is on a bigger flush draw then you. I just don't think you come out ahead very often on this one. Looks -EV to me. But I'm sure I will be corrected by someone who knows what they are talking about soon.

With the exception of this guy the table was very very tight, and when I see such a tight table I open my raising range preflop a lot. Hand in question is more about flop play not preflop.

Pre-flop is fine. As far as the flop, I call that all day long. If he has a bigger flush draw you're already ahead. If he has a pair of tens (AT, KT, whatever) you have a ton of outs and the right pot odds. Basically with the amount of money he's putting in I'd need a lock read to fold it. Against a relative unknown this is an insta-call.

Oops, I totally missed that you had paired the eight. With that I now change my answer to call. I knew I would screw that up. Without the pair I would still fold though.

limp behind pre is probably better since he is a shorty, and folding pre is fine also. As played you should snap call this all day w/ a pair + FD + shortstack getting 2:1 on your money.

Alright, I re-thought the whole thing and with villians #'s I call without the pair as well. So I have went from auto-fold to insta call.

That is my final answer though.

why are you raising J8s preflop then? This is a uber monster flop for you.

other than flopping the nuts (i.e. a straight, full house or flush), this is the next best thing.

yes. And also, bode, his raise was isolating a bigger stack, not the shorty pre.

Actually Ive learned something since posting on FTR, whatever I think the right thing to do, just do the opposite. See normally the old me would have never raised preflop, never knew anything about isloating the bigger stack and then if by some chance I miss clicked and raised preflop I would have swore that he has to have a ten and that I have to fold. Now since Ive grown up (thank you FTR), Ive realized that raising preflop here is fine and that even if he has a ten Im not that far behind and have enough equity to call.

I posted this hand simply cause Its a common situation and i wanted to make sure that I was playing it right. I didnt ever think it was a fold, therefore my title can be a little misleading

I would call with J8 of clubs, short stacks are so brainless they're open-shoving any piece of that board and sometimes still if they missed completely.
