I check behind because this guy was a short stack and he pushed some hands earlier. It was a close call but I just couldn't bring myself to call without a pair here. I figure I have a shot to take his stack later.

1- I think fold flop if you plan to fold turn, unless you were planning a float.

2- I agree with taking his stack later, and good fold on turn...a couple days ago I was tilting and had a very similar hand, thought I had induced a bluff checking the flop and called a similar size turn push, the tricky shorty had KK

So no worries about the results, he could have had any pair, don't let the donk show get to you. The only other option I see is cbetting 2/3 to 3/4 of shorty's stack on the flop, especially if he was raising/calling big raises too much.

Hand 2, I make a standard c-bet on the flop. You re-raised pre-flop, he HAS to think his K3 is beaten here. If he has the balls to re-raise you, then you can fold, but 90% of players won't.

hand 2 cbet flop. he is observant by knowing that his chance to win the pot is pretty much ONLY when you check the flop so he can open shove on the turn w/ that crap board. and he did have the flush/gutter draw combo so it's not like it was a completely crazy push, good spot for it really. but he could and probably should usually make the same move no matter what falls on the turn.

as played, reasonable fold, but i really think you have to cbet flop there.
In answer to your question... it depends...

I take a free card here sometimes when I raise preflop. The reason is he knows that flop doesn't help me. If I cbet, he can pull the same move which is more likely from a short stack. If I take a free card and spike a K or A, I'm good. I planned on betting the turn if checked to regardless. I do this with made hands as well at times against the right opponents.

Plus, I'm an 85% underdog to any pair. I'd rather wait for a better edge than that.

r8ed, checking the flop is fine in hand 2, but bet it sometimes. if you check the flop though i think betting any turn is a bad idea.

I bet it 90% of the time but for the reasons above I checked this time. To be honest, I can't believe the number of times I check the flop in position and then take it down when checked to at 100NL - even into two opps. I think they are freaked out when I DON'T CBET!
