Villain in this hand is 22/19/3.8. In the first couple of orbits we had been playing pretty aggro vs one another pre flop. One hand early in the session he opened on the button, I 3bet from the blinds, he 4bet, I shoved and he folded. We've both calmed down since then, and I haven't been 3 betting him much if at all.

bet the flop! i never check a two toned board with AK when i hit. now the hand is just too hard to gauge. i think you have to fold this.

My reasons for checking the flop:
I don't want to play for stacks on this board, and my hand really can't stand a check/raise.
Entice calls from JJ/KK/TT and lower pairs on later streets.
Mix it up against someone who is likely a reg and who I will probably run into again later.
good/bad?

first of all he wont stack off with most hands that you arent already beating. AA he wouldve 4 bet pre, as well as QQ most likely. AQ or KQ is the most probably holding that you lose to here.

With a FD on the flop, you want to lead out there to defend against it. And once the Q falls on the turn and completes the flush, you aren't getting action from anything else than from stuff that beats you, and thus won't be getting action from JJ/KK/TT anyways.
Lead flop, and if you get check/raised, fold it right there if you don't want to play for stacks (which begs the question: why are you betting the turn?). You might get him to fold to your c-bet anyways because you 3-bet him PF (so he has to assume you're fairly strong).
Sorry if that sounds jumbled, I'm kinda tired.

why is everyone scared of flush draws in reraised pots? id check flop and turn the majority of the time. you only have one street of solid value so you might as well ensure that you see a showdown.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. I'm trying to maximize value against underpairs without getting blown out of the pot by AQ/QQ/AA. I'm not sure if I get an extra street of value by checking the flop though.

I agree AQ is the most probable holding I lose to here, I'm not sure if KQ is in his calling range pre flop though. It's probably not impossible for him to show up with QQ or AA either.

I think big pairs that have a diamond in it are sticking around at least on the turn. Probably even those without diamonds.

If I had bet the flop, I do think b/f is the best option (which sucks imo), which is a big part of the reason why I checked it back. I bet the turn to get value out of smaller pairs.
