Yeah, amazing story indeed.
At www.poker-king.com they're following the subject quite closely, if someone wants some more info on it.

Guys AP and FTR and P5's and poker sites everywhere have been talking about this for days. Look in some other forums, even on this site. Or BBV on 2+2

Are you still playing on Absolute Bode? I remember playing you once or twice there a while back when I was clearing a bonus.

Also, continually posting this shit in every forum is not good for the image of poker, and people should recognize this and try and not sensationalize it so much.

for real. in the main thread about this here on ftr someone said they were spamming lots of ap tables telling everyone about it. i think that is a terrible idea.

guys, there have never been so many 1/2 2/4nl tables open on AP as there are now.
Ive seen it discussed once on there by anyone who looks like a reg. Noone is bothered and any action 3/6nl+ never existed anyway, maybe 3 tables on a friday/saturday night if lucky. Micro/small stakes are as active as ever.

Why? This company's executives cheated at poker, stole customer money and lied about it. Why are you glad they're still in business?

i hope the company crashes out of business.
the only way to let sites know they can't do this stuff is by withdrawing business. obviously, nobody gives a crap, and there are no consequences for any site regardless of what they do.

It must be a huge fish pond if you have to shortstack to win there
Without a boycott by players, affiliates and poker sites like FTR, Absolute will have no incentive to come clean. They haven't returned any money or provided any meaningful details. After several denials and attempted coverups, now is not the time to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Obviously clueless noobs are going to keep playing at AP, but it boggles my mind that FTR'ers would give them business at this point.

there would need to be jail for someone for me to believe at all that they had done something about this. it's too high up to believe a word they say. they never ever showed any intention of admitting the truth until it started making big news, nobody believes for a second they didn't know.
someone screws them over in a way that could've really hurt the company and they just fire the guy?
i can't believe that any half knowledgable poker player would consider giving them a cent.

I think this might be the most ridiculously wrong things I've ever seen on the internet. Every single person at AP, from the CEO down to the lowest programmer or accounts assistant, will be afraid right now. As for consequences, well, go have a look at the mid/high stakes tables at AP right now.
If you ran your own business and your customers were defrauded by a staff member, would you feel you deserved to go bust, or to jail?

The evidence possessed by adanthar & N 82 @ 2p2 and brsavage @ P5s suggests that the owner and second in command were actually the cheaters/thieves. They haven't posted everything they know, for obvious reasons, but if you read through the latest AP thread in BBV, it's there.
Whether we want the company to go busto or not, xyu's point is right on. The only threat to an offshore poker site's existence is loss of revenue from players. There's no meaningful regulatory agency, and who knows what the laws in Antigua, Costa Rica, or wherever are. If we (and affiliates and poker sites) don't boycott Absolute, they'll have no incentive to come completely clean.

What does UB have to do with it? They are independent sites. Different players, tables and management.

I believe the owners of AP bought out UB. That's why you can now transfer funds directly from AP to UB and (I think) vice versa.
They don't share tables though, and from what I hear the software is secure at UB. The only reason for concern is if AP goes busto, UB may very well go down as well.

biondino, i agree with your sentiment, it would be unfair for a business to suffer at the hands of a "consultant", and then to suffer again at a loss of business, but it is very difficult to believe that is what happened here.
crucially, they covered this up several times, and we got extremely lucky that this all came out, the story was dying in bbv until the hand histories and ip's, emails etc were released to the guys that solved all this.
the point is, this is an inside job, and if they want to prove that this isn't just those very same people covering up again (which, going on recent history is surely more likely than them actually telling the truth) we need to see consequences for the culprits. this should be the case regardless of whether it proves absolute's inocence since they actually committed a huge crime, and wronged a lot of people for a lot of money.
i think they are afraid, they obviously made a big u turn with the audit and statements etc, but only because it went to the media. the traffic wasn't (and isn't) down, and plenty have already forgiven and forgotten, so i don't believe there are any huge consequences here. we need sites to know that if this stuff gets out, it is catastrophic, to the point that it isn't allowed to happen at all. considering how lucky we were (and we probably won't be next time), and that even now it doesn't seem to have had a huge impact on absolute, i don't see any deterrent from this or similar abuses of power in the future.

Interesting. I've always liked UB and was planning on moving back.
I'm glad to see AP releasing details. I think we'll know what really happened soon. I think there will be arrests, prosecutions and facts out there in the long run. In the short run, the internet rumors/legends will do more harm and than good for online poker and poker in general.
Let's protect our br's and take a wait-and-see attitude. No reason (if you didn't have money stolen from you) to go on a rampage - yet.

Fair enough about the latest news, it seems I posted immediately before it came out. Either way, I think it's callous to wish for the termination of a whole business because of a small number of crooks. Sadly, in a world where trust and integrity is so crucial, I'm not sure there's any way back and hundreds of everyday workers will be out of a job.

It's not the crooks I care about, it's the way the company tried to cover it up for weeks. -0.2% of market share last week though, doesn't seem like they have been hit too hard yet...

I disagree Badger. My father owns a company that had an embezzler, and he wanted to release the details, especially within the company to let his employees know what had happened. There were police, investigators, accountants/auditors and a district attorney who all asked him NOT to release any statements for several weeks.
Besides, you have to know what the facts are before you can release them. The only people who (right now) know how much was stolen and all the methods by which it was taken are the crooks. The good guys are working hard now to (a) fix the security, (b) determine every single theft from thousands of games over many months, and (c) prosecute the perpetrators.
Give this company a few more weeks to do what's right, before crucifying them. They have promised to repay every theft from company coffers.
Even if Absolute returns all the theft-related losses, I will GUARANTEE some fish/losers will CLAIM they were victims of theft when, in fact, they suck at poker. Months from now we'll be hearing about "a bunch of people" who were "ripped off" at Absolute and "never got a dime back." Don't believe everything you read in these internet forums.
