UTG is Bouge_Todd, with whom i apparently play at least 50% of all hands at 400NL. He is a good TAG regular. Neither of us has gotten caught bluffing or been very active, although it's only been 3-4 orbits since i sat down.

Both players in the blinds were nitty and pretty passive, so i wasn't worried at all about getting squeezed when i called preflop.

His bluffing frequency on the turn is going to be high.

Which line do you like best?

Raise the turn
Call the turn (and raise a river bet, bet if checked to)
Call the turn (and fold to a river bet, bet if checked to)
Fold

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

BB ($400)
UTG ($575.20)
MP ($406)
CO ($400)
Hero ($424.20)
SB ($484.50)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 7, 4.
UTG raises to $16, 2 folds, Hero calls $16, 2 folds.

Flop: ($38) K, J, 9 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks.

Turn: ($38) 8 (2 players)
UTG bets $34, Hero

I'll post the river action after a couple people comment.

a flush is always raising the turn here, which is really the only thing you can rep. i hate checking the flop here , unless hes seen you do this a lot w/ QT, KJ, sets here, which i doubt he has. i'd turbomuck.

Fold pre and bet the flop. The board is so drawy that he's telling you he has nothing by not c-betting. Not sure why he'd bluff this turn if he thinks you're decent b/c he's repping nothing besides a flush draw and 88. I probably fold b/c it's tough for you to rep something here. If you really think he's bluffing then I like a raise.

Who doesn't bet a flush draw HU in position when checked to on a high board in a raised pot? Whereas his flop check could mean anything at all, especially as he raised UTG. I think you give up here.

I agree with most posts here. You're trying to rep a flush, BUT I think all FD's will bet the flop when checked to so it doesn't make much sense. Bet the flop, as played fold, i'd imagine.

I think it's reasonable for him to check/call a hand like A-J/Q-Q on this flop. Likewise i think it is reasonable that i would check a hand like K-xs/J-xs on this flop, since my "hand" would prefer not to build a large pot. My plan was to take the pot away on the turn if he checked again. If he has a hand like 6-6 he is probably just going to try and check it down, and he can't really call a turn bet.

Yeah i guess since he is almost never check/raising the flop that i would be betting with all my flush draws (didn't occur to me during the hand).

lol now im a little embarrassed to post the rest of the hand, ill just say i didn't run a big river bluff

I don't mind the preflop call to mix it up from time to time but if I call with a mediocre hand in position and I get checked to on the flop by I good player I bluff here. Otherwise it becomes a bluff war and 7high has no showdown value.

i think the call pre is fine but definitely bet/give up flop.

Turn there's nothing you can really do but fold.

Vi: I like the way your thinking in this hand and I think your assesment of his range makes bluffing in this spot with some sort of line look good, it's just tough when the only value we have is pure bluff. That being said we're going to get called a lot on the turn when we raise and its going to be very hard to evaluate the river. If you had even one spade I think i'd like raise turn bet river (if a spade doesn't hit)

I posted a hand exactly like this recently and got pretty much the same response, a bluff is okay but with no outs it kind of sucks.
Flopping quads and boats like its my job
