Hello,
I've been playing strictly full tables for a while now, and have developed my skill to make a fair profit with tight, straight up play.
So I've heard that you can profit alot more from 6max more than you can from full tables. Is this true? Also can you still play tight, and straight up at a 6max table, or do you have to loosen up alot?

Yes, 6 max is definitely more profitable than full ring in some aspects. There are biggers swings overall but it's still a NLHE cash game minus 3-4 players. You have to be looser than you would at full ring but with that said you should still be playing very solidly. Hand values change a lot too, overpairs are stronger and so are hands in general. You need a lot of experience to full understand how hand values change in 6 max.

no matter what anyone says I think it's very, very tough to "teach" someone to adapt to 6 max. It's definitely where it's at in terms of profit but I think the change is best made gradually. If you are perceptive you will begin to sense - with time - the adjustments necessary to 6 max. Instruction manuals are no good. Experience is key. I dropped 22 buy - ins initially and have since quadrupled my profit rate playing 6 max. Explaining how would take a very, very long post which would have too many "if"s...

I'm not as experienced/knowledgeable as others here, but have recently gotten back into short hand after taking a while away from it for full ring, and it's been great so far . What makes sense to me is the variance is greater from playing in more marginal spots, but in the long run if you have more skill then you make more money in it compared to full ring because you get involved more with worse players. The logic I understand for playing more hands is that you get position more and blind steals are more important. I also find I get better reads. It's not been a huge change or anything as far as my basic game though. I think I'm learning a lot more and fixing old leaks through 1-2 tables of short hand (and maybe 1-2 more of full ring) instead of 4-8 tables of full ring. And a huge thing - it seems like the fish are really concentrated in shorthand comapred to full ring. So I'd say give it a shot.

this is just my opinion, but would you all say that 6 max brings a lot more gamblers? I seem to find a lot of full ring games are rock fests, but the 6 max tables seem to bring out the gamblers and the bluffers and people who just like to play hands...Or maybe 6 max is just more profitable because you get alot more hands/hr - either case, i prefer 6max, if nothing more than I get to use skills/moves a lot more there than I feel comfortable with at a full table -

Oh, yes. http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...oker-39566.htm
Those are extreme cases, but in general I'm finding my hands get paid off much more in shorthand.
