If he'll call $8 he'll call a push.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

You might try betting $4 or so again.

Half the pot (or like 25c under). It's the perfect psychological dividing line. If he likes his hand, it's small enough to get a raise out of him; if he doesn't, he'll still be thinking hmm, TP, 3:1 odds, I've gotta bet here.

I assume he had a missed flush draw (from his turn minbet) and maybe a paired jack?
