my first instinct in hand 1 was to check, since we have a mediocre hand with showdown value, BUT 1/2 the deck + A/K/T is scary.

Is betting this turn bad (20-40)? You might get a loose call from TT/88/AK, and deny AK a chance to out draw you. But getting raised is terrible, and you still have to sweat a club or spade on the river.

If you check behind turn, do you always call river?

I don't mind checking on turn in hand one at all, but I like betting too b/c he's 1) afraid you have a Q and 2) if you do have a Q you don't want to give free cards so a Q would probably bet here.

Hand two -- I bet flop most of the time, if not all of the time. It's a reraised pot, you have TPTK. Call a shove and/or go broke with this hand from there...

I don't think we should turn our hand into a bluff when the only better hands we are bluffing out are AA or KK and i don't even know if this guy will fold them.

FWIW I'm calling any non-ace or king river in hand 1 was the plan.

Hand 2 I was going to go broke with regardless of the cards or action to come.

Yeah, I don't like turning our hand (1) into a bluff... but I think it's a question of bluffing to stop a bluff. Ideally, you would know whether villain is a habitual bluffer (meaning you should check behind and call almost any river) or rarely bluffs in which case you want to bet to discourage even a rare bluff, then you can safely fold almost any river.

The other reason to check behind against an aggro villian is a c/r bluff is terrible for us as well.

It's also a value bet because some worse pairs + AK will call, then check a blank river.
