I think it was a little suspicious that Villian raised it up all the way to $11, I might have the tendency to flat call this and put some pressure on him post flop. He's not betting this amount because he wants to be called it would seem? Folding would be fine I reckon, reraising is definitely not an option.

Don't use this reasoning. It will get you in way more trouble than it saves you from.

So you thought the opposite of me pretty much? He's basically making an overbet as a means of inducing a call instead of a fold in this hand? (pretending to make a steal bet when he actually has a great hand that he wants to be called on)

That's cool to disagree, I don't have a problem with that, give me your take on this hand.

Man I hate that...when someone critiques one of the responses but doesn't even touch the initial qustion. Offer up some knowledge, that's what this is all about no?

It isn't an overbet, it's pretty much a pot-sized raise. Big raises and bets don't nessicarilly mean weak hands at all, especially from good players. It's just a means of getting more money into the pot when they suspect their opponent has a strong hand themselves. You can also do it to maximize fold equity, but it's done all the time with big hands as well so you really can't look too much into it.

If this was 2/4+ and the reraiser 3bets often preflop I would certainly 4bet with AK here and call a push. However most players at 100nl aren't reraising light, so AK goes into the muck here without a read. Flat calling is a decent alternative. At a higher stake I'm more likely to 4bet since I know what players are capable of.

Without a read I fold this, against a tight raiser I fold this everytime. People at these stakes generally dont 3bet enough without AK/AA/KK/QQ, so unless you are up against someone who 3-bets light, you are very often in trouble when reraised with AKo.

I had *exactly* this situation last night at $100NL with JJ rather than AK - raised to $3, MP re-raises to $11. I was HJ and pushed with almost a full stack.

(NB this story doesn't have a happy ending - the original raiser had KK and stacked me, though the re-raiser folded)
