JL will become famous soon enough
Villain is a weak reg running 22/13/2.0 with a 4% 3bet (0% squeeze) over 500 hands.
I don't have any other relevant reads.

I think 4betting would be over-playing my hand and folding seems too weak, so I called.

Do I bet flop or check back?

$0.50/$1 No Limit Holdem
5 Players
Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com

Stacks:
Hero ($101.50)
CO ($54.45)
BTN ($129.65)
SB ($96.50)
BB ($103)

Pre-Flop: ($1.50, 5 players) Hero is UTG
Hero raises to $3, CO calls $3, 1 fold, SB raises to $12, 1 fold, Hero calls $9, CO folds

Flop: ($28, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero ($89.5)?

Check behind, you can get him off a split later and he's not c/f any hand that's beating you on the flop.

I'd say check back but having a quick brainstorm, if you have JJ here, how do you play out this hand, for example, if you don't think he is checking QQ-AA and you have JJ here, would you bet small or half pot to hope he comes along with a hand like AK?
I've been reviewing my 3 and 4bet pots recently and seem to bleed in these spots and was constructing ideas to be more balanced, esp in spots like this.

if i have hands like TT/JJ here i generally check behind, a lot of people at the lower stakes are looking to fold AK when they compeltely whiff, and if you bet your mid pairs and get check-raised you're in a super gross spot. if they have AA/KK/QQ etc and are playing the flop tricky they're almost always gonna fire the turn if you check back the flop.
