Geez,
A little more than a year ago I was finishing a stint of playing for play money online and realized I had better trying play for even low stakes real money if I wanted to really learn to play poker, instead of playing with a bunch of people acting like fools.
While I was waiting for Neteller to fund, I checked out several poker sites, one of which was PokerStars. I wanted to check out their software so I had to set up a name. I didn't put much thought into it and called myself "PokerNancy".
This week I was wondering what kind of new players they might have picked up as they are advertising pretty heavily during this week's grand slam tennis.
So I go over there, but I have to use my old name in order to play.
I figured they'd let me change it since I NEVER played there for real money, so I email customer support about that.
I kinda wanted a less memorable name.
Now, would it be better to hope people would think a woman like me would play terrible (I don't think I do anymore), and take advantage of that?
Or would it be better to have a vague name, some letters and numbers, in hopes people would forget me from time to time, unless they had taken notes on me.
What's your opinion?
And is PokerStars reasonable in not letting me pick a new name for a real money account a year after I set up a play money account which I quickly stoppped playing?
Is it even worth it to check out PokerStars? I was kind of hoping they'd be slightly more talented than the wild guys at Bodog, but not nearly so tight aggressive as Full Tilt....
You know, intelligent people who assume they're smart enough to play well, but haven't taken the time to learn poker.

okay. answer to your question is i don't know.
now, you've only had a play money account. so i don't expect lots of hassle if you made another one. just say you forgot about your old play money account
but the name is fine. Check out lukie's related name thread. I agree that having a girl name (and pokernancy is a good, believable one) is +EV

I only ever play for play money to test software.
Given that, I can play quite oddly. I don't want to have to wait for a good hand to test raising and such, using the slider to re-raise.....
Not a very good indication of anything real. Especially if you take me to showdown and see I have 72o.
