Trying to decide between pacific poker and pokerroom. While some might say neither, my options are limited to sites that run on my mac. I'm currently playing bugsys, but there is little traffic most players are pretty tight and the money making potential is low. The only advantages are that there are a lot of MTT's as well as some small buy in SnG's (.50 +.o5 and $1 + .10).

I'd like to find a site where I could make a little more money from some fishy players in ring games, as well as play some small buy-in MTT's and SnG's.

Can anyone recommend one over the other?

I can onnly answer for Poker room. It seems like you like playing SNGs for 5 and 10 then I think it is a good site for you. Starting chips is 1500 so you are not that dependable to hit a good hand early. And there enoguh fish around at least in low stakes SNG's and MTT's and at least up to 1/2 limit.

How are the ring games?

Anyone have any experience with pacific?

Both have horrible software. Pacific is a little worse. Pacific has the fishiest action however. You make a killing there.

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Really? Pacific is fishier than Pokerroom? I've never played there, just figured since pokerroom was somewhat of a bigger, more well known site that it would attract some fishy people.

One advantage of going with pokerroom is that i can use MacPoker Pro, which is similar to PokerTracker. However it currently only works with pokerrroom, and only for ring games.

Go to Pokerroom, they run a $5.50 MTT every hour all day long, usually with about 500 entrants. I played around 5 of those a few months ago when I was whoring there, two final tables.

The SNG's and NL ring are way fishier at Pacific but Pokerroom offers beatable low-buyin MTTs.

Very interested in this thread - I too am on a mac. Have been on Pokerroom for about two months. Was a total beginner (other than the odd home game) to start with, but since learning the game at all, playing properly I have managed to turn my 200 ingame bankroll into 400. Now, that is of course slim pickings, but it proves there is money to be made while learning the game. And everyone has to start somewhere.

I would say I was now a competent player, I can destack the fish and play a reasonable tight game, have managed to place in MTTs a couple of times and am up overall in the 5 and 10 dollar SnGs. I would say I have a hell of a lot of learning to do to catch up with people on this site mind!

Pacific seems hard to deposit money into with Switch card, so will try just the deposit page on my housemate's PC. I could do with finding more fish.

What do the regulars think? Is it worth negotiating a consistent loan of a PC? Or is there enough to be made on PR and Pacific, not to mentioning learning more? Is the consensus that there is more easy money on Pacific?

As for pokerpro, it really slows things down, especially if you are three-tabling. It is handy though, have liked it in evaluation and will probably cough up soon.

In general I feel like I have plateaued slightly. I am playing NL and staying up - I hope to try to work on a limit game soon. Any advice on progressing welcome.

I play both Pacific and Pokerroom (though I use a PC) and I like them both in their own ways.

First off, if you want to multitable DO NOT choose Pacific as your one and only, because you can only play one table at a time. However, it has a lot of fish and some great turbo tournaments (called Nitros) which make a fun change from time to time.

Pokerroom has my favourite "feel" of any of the sites to which I belong. I like the way it looks and the way it plays; I like how when you're all in against an oppo it gives you your & chance of winning on each street; and I really like the STTs, which usually last 60-70 mins rather than 40 as claimed earleir, and have a good mix of decent players and poor ones.

I also really like the 5max tables, but that might be because they suit my game. You can also easily create your own tables at Pokerroom, which is a big plus.

I'd say Pacific is the fishier of the two, but apart from the Nitros, Pokerroom gets my vote.

I'm still pretty torn... not sure where to go yet.

A coworker of mine is making good money playing pacific. However I think on pacific you need special software to grab your hand histories and that software is PC only.

I don't really like the pokerroom interface that much, probably because pacific's tables are somewhat similar to what i'm used to at bugsys.

What is the bonus situation at these sites? Is it hard to clear the bonus's at one or both?

First deposit bonus needs you to play hands to clear it, but you shouldn't struggle given how keen you seem to be, you get a month to do it IIRC and I cleared it with a week and a half.

Pokerroom also has a Shark Cage for newbies only - an MTT to get you started, given that some newbies will be total newbies it's not a bad first MTT.

I find the tables have been good for improving my play, especially in tourney situations. I'm also consistently winning in ring games now, so it's certainly beatable, even early(ish) on.

Pokerroom bonuses are slow to clear. I personally don't like their interface to the point that I'm only playing there because they gave me a free $10, but that's more subjective. Haven't played Pacific.

my $.02...

PR:
- fishy limit tables (haven't played enuff NL there)
- avg blinds (10 mins, I think), but pretty weak tourney competition
- software freezes and slugs along quite often (even got a memory upgrade and this didn't help)
- 4 table max
- slow bonus clear; but I cleared it while earning 5 BB/100 playing limit.

Pac:
- really fishy NL, and limit; very fun
- lightening fast blinds on MTT's (almost turbo)
- 1 table max
- no bonus experience here...
