Well, I signed up with Poker Stars yesterday after playing on Party Poker for a few months. Here are some random comments:

Poker Stars client is the ugliest, least pleasing to the eye piece of crap that I've ever seen. My wife walked by while I was playing and said, "Why does it look so much worse than the other one?" Everything seems to be so grainy and the color scheme is horrible.

The avatars are nice. Real nice. Its a nice way to remember people.

You can't tell how much people are betting unless you roll the mouse over! However, someone told me there is a setting you can tweak to fix this? I haven't tried that yet.

I played one tournament. The tournament format they use is 1,000,000 times better than Party Poker. Starting out with 1200 instead of 800 chips changes everything. You can actually play poker. You can actually lose 1 or 2 hands that you bet to a showdown and still not be completely out of it. You can bluff and lose and still not be out of it. The caliber of player was pretty poor. No better than the Party Poker folks. It was at a $5 SNG though. I got some nice cards and went all in 3 or 4 times, and got called by people with flush draw, straight draw, two overcards, etc. I was chip leader with 5 ppl left, but then I lost two all-in bets to a river flush, and finished in 4th.

Haven't tried any ring games yet. The majority of my poker money is still in Party Poker.

I agree with TheNatural, pokerstars has the least appealing interface, both in terms of its color palette and features.

It gives me a headache to play it, but it's gonna be worth it to play with FTR...

Weird, I prefer the interface for PokerStars better than Party Poker or Ultimate Bet. I think the action is easier to follow at Poker Stars as well. There are definately many stupid players in the $5 SNGs on PS though, same with the .10/.25 ring games. I've seen idiots in the .50/1.00 ring games as well, but every once in a while you can get a great table.

I like Stars better than Party. Is nice to have all your stats right on the screen. Plus I like that it tells you your position in a tourney. Much better than Party.

I wish I could play at Paradise, but its just too cpu intensive to run on virtual pc.
Some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants won't help.

In the main lobby, under Options, check Display Bet Amounts.

I agree Maxxscam. I was doing it the other way around. I first started at Pokerstars and won and lost the first 2 months there. Probably ended up at least 500 Down when everything had come and gone. So I thought I'd at least give Partypoker a chance, so I switched. Since then I have made over $1000 and in less than 3 weeks. It must be the players, the tourney formats, or maybe I just got better. But either way, I am liking Partypoker better at the moment. I could care less about the interface on either sites, as long as the $$$$ is rolling in.

i think you mean 1500 (at least with SNG's). the 1500 takes some getting used to compared to PP's 800 - it's definitely a bit less frantic.

i'm not thrilled with the interface, but you can't beat the variety in terms of tourney types and limits.

As far as eye pleasing. I personally will go with Absolute Poker. My eyes just adjust better to blue. And like stars, they also allow personal avatars.

Pokerstars is the place I wish I could be profitable. It just seems like all the "players" go there. While all the fish are over at Party. If Stars is gonna be a locale for FTR, then I guess I better reinstall it then and learn to be a better player. But I'm still reserved as to how much I'm gonna initially invest there.

At least it doesn't have the torturing sounds of poker room ...

But I agree. PokerStars is one of the least appealing poker sites I've found to play interface wise, and Party Poker is one of the nicest ones for sure.
