Jason is an unknown quantity at this point
I've searched around for some information on rakeback and I've been able to glean things here and there, but there's also several holes I'd like to fill. From what I've gathered, rakeback is real money that you get back into your account based on a % of the total rake that's been taken from you in cash games or tournament fees. At sites like FullTilt, you usually have to sign-up with a 3rd party to get it and some sites like PokerStars don't even offer it.

What I don't understand is how does the 3rd party get the money to give back to you? What's in it for them? What's the penalty to you, the poker player? What if your 3rd party rakeback affiliate goes under? Can you join with another site? What are the most reputable sites - feel free to send me a PM if that type of information can't be posted publicly.

I don't want to turn this into a Full Tilt versus PokerStars thread, however, I've always played @ PokerStars and decided to install FullTilt to have a look. For cash games, which is what I play, they seem to have as good, if not better selection of games. So, if you add that plus the rakeback, it looks like it might be a better site to play at. Is that true?

Any other pertinent information or links would be appreciated. In fact, if this same thread already exists, feel free to just move this post to the end of that one.

rakeback is provided by sites to affiliates who manage to get you to join there poker site. Most sites including pokerstars pay affiliates close to or over 50% or the rake you generate. These sites then compete for you to sign up through them by downloading the links from there site so it is tagged to them. These are legal for the most part. Pokerstars does not allow RB to be paid to players. Full tilt and others do. The biggest trick to RB is having no cookies linking your download to anyone but the RB provider, and using an approved provider. The most over the table and preferred provider by most is raketherake.com and they have been around forever. Download any program on their site so it is linked to you by following their directions(to remove banner cookies that may already be on your browser) and you will have no problems.
