I've been having a problem with PS lately where it takes forever to load and sometimes ends up "not responding". It will also do this upon exiting PS.
I found out that this was due to a really large notes file (notes.xml). Mine was 270MB. After some searching I found out that alot of garbage is somehow written to the notes.xml file. This garbage can be deleted if you use a hex editor such as XVI32 and delete the garbage and save the file. Mine went from 270MB to about 65kB and PS runs fine now. PS claims they fixed it but they do not fix your xml file.

I got most of this from the 2+2 forum but modified it because it's not very clear.
Download XVI32. Easy google search. No install. It's just an exe file.
Make a backup of the xml file
Open your xml file using XVI32
Click search>find and type note.
Hit F3 to keep searching through and eventually you will start seeing the garbage. Trust me. You will know the garbage when you see it. The rest of it will have the format:
<note player="Player Name" label="0">blah, blah,blah</note>
with a few other symbols in there.

The garbage will be a bunch of symbols and such.

What you will do next is to cut and paste( using CTRL-X and CTRL-V ) the good notes over the top of the garbage so that all of the notes are at the top of the file.
Click the first part of the good notes and hold down Shift and use the arrows to select all the good data. The data will turn red when seleted.
Then CTRL-X to cut it. Go to the top where the notes are and use CTRL-V to paste it after the end of the good data.
Once you have all of the notes together and all of the garbage after the notes then go to the end of the notes to where it says </notes> and click the block after it.
Go to edit>delete from cursor and it will delete all of the garbage after the good data. Save the file and open it in notepad or something and you should be able to tell if the data is good.
Let me know if you have questions

Linky to 2+2 thread regarding this? Could not find it. Anyone else used this fix? Or do you think PS will fix on their own?

From what I understand, PS has fixed the problem with the file no longer getting filled with garbage but they do not remove the garbage from your file for you.
If you google pokerstars notes.xml you should see it but it's the 10 page forum link.

Awesome thank you. I just remove the "notes XML" and left the "notes text" file in. Do you think this will screw something up? My notes still seem to be there along with the color coding I have done.

I believe the notes.txt file is converted to a notes.xml file as soon as you load PS. I don't think it will update the txt file after that.
If you made more notes after the first conversion then you will probably lose those.

Thanks, this was very helpful. I've had long wait times @ load and exit. My notes file was almost a 1/2 gig! Now it's almost 1/2 a meg Plus my load/exit times are back to normal.

Pokerstars was slowing down for me with a notes.xml file that was only 180 MB. Now, it's super fast to start and exit the program. I could see a few scrambled notes in the file, but I've confirmed that the notes are working in Pokerstars. Thanks!

Ok Sasquach I must be a total tard. I tried doing this twice. Thinking I was just deleting bad data. But I will check players I know i have notes on, and they are gone. Will deleteing the garbage delete some of your notes even if you keep the good data?
