Dear Gabe,
First, let me take this opportunity to thank you for helping make PKR such a huge success. Over 20,000 of you have already signed up and downloaded our software since May and we've been overwhelmed by the positive response to the game. We're glad to see that you're enjoying playing PKR as much as we enjoyed building it.
Today marks our real money launch on PKR. While we're very proud of the game we're delivering to our players and excited about giving them the opportunity to play for real money, we're also disappointed to announce that, we can't offer real money play to our US based players at this time.
No doubt you've been following the news that the Senate may vote on a bill that could ban online gaming in the United States. As a result, we've had some tough decisions to make regarding the launch of real money play on PKR in the US. We've concluded that we have no choice but to postpone our launch for real money in the USA while we wait for the Senate's decision. This should take place in October, meaning that we hope to be able to offer you real money play in 6-8 weeks time.
We realize that this news will be as frustrating to many of you as it is for us. Please accept our apologies. This situation is beyond our control and we hope that it will be a temporary one.
Thankfully we also have some very good news for US players on PKR. To thank you for your patience we're ramping up our freeroll program by adding another $25,000 in prizes in the coming weeks. These will be scheduled during times that best suit US players and will allow you to experience PKR at its very best - on us. Please visit the freeroll tournament schedule where you'll find a complete list of tournaments and times, we're sure you'll find one that suits you.
Good luck and see you at the tables,
Malcolm Graham

Why are these foreign poker sites such huge pussies? It's not against the law, so fucking wait until it is. What are they afraid of? Hire a legion of lawyers and own any US attempt to discipline you. Grow the fuck up.

Believe me, we’re as upset as you are and we tried hard to find a way around it. Temporarily losing a large % of our audience (and upsetting them) is not a decision we wanted to make or one taken lightly but I'll try to explain why we had to:
We have US investors and US investors have pulled out of every single publicly traded poker company already – on the 17th July to be precise.
It would be crazy for us to have thousands of US players for a couple of months and then have to return all your funds to you.
We are all hoping that this is only in the short term. October is important because the Senate session runs from 4th September to 6th October.
As far as freerolls go, if you win money in free rolls we will pay you. The difference between depositing and winning free rolls is that you (the customer) have not wagered anything. We’re not letting US players use their freeroll winnings in cash games because that might be considered gambling under the proposed legislation (even if you never deposited on our site). This is something we’re going to be reviewing. The reason we are continuing running freerolls at US friendly times is that we are still hoping that you will be able to join us in the coming months
Lets hope the Senate will see sense.....

Andy, why is returning all the US players money a bad thing compared to not having their rake for 3 months until you have to do so? Can't you profit short term with a realistic expectation of dropoff to your current numbers? That's just what a new business needs is a little boost at the beginning, am I right? It just seems like you're shorting yourself willing short term profit in the name of not being inconvenienced from a business standpoint. It's not like you'll have to downsize your overhead, since you're internet based, and your current servers are probably capable of holding the traffic load already.
I know little about business, so educate me if you want. Thank you for taking the time. I appreciate it.

I wish the Senate would concentrate on an exit strategy for Iraq and Global Warming. Some of the arguments against online poker are silly.

Force the entire planet into an 1800's reenactment until the end of time?
Also, stop forcing impoverished smokers to smoke OUTSIDE the welfare office.

Let me word it better. I wish the Senate would concentrate on Global Warming and an exit strategy for Iraq.
If we stretch the definition of "exit strategy" then it could apply to Global Warming but that wasn't what I was trying to say.

I know, just kidding around.
But really, aren't Iraq and the destruction of our planet minor problems compared to making sure people don't play online poker?

so britain gets to rule the world again and i get my slave back?
cool, ill vote for this
on a serious note, id love to see an answer to rondavu's suggestion. Surely making a good deal of money for 3months, if poker IS banned, is worth the investment you have already made. Afterall, if you can pocket some cash from running a couple cash games for 3months thats got to be good right?
(id open my own room for 3months and take a couple grand in rake everyday even if it was only for that hort period)

Let's be clear... the Senate is not concentrating on this online poker ban nonsense. That's the House of Representatives. The Senate hasn't touched the damn thing since it got signed out of the House, and I seriously doubt it will this year.

According to Poker Player Alliance, Senator Bill Frist is planning to bring this bill to a vote in September. Got this in an email from them.
As the summer temperatures continue to rise, so does the heated debate in Congress over banning online poker. The Poker Players Alliance is working to ensure that the U.S. Senate does not vote on the same misguided legislation that passed the House in July. We have been successful in delaying action until now, but Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) intends to bring the online poker prohibition bill to a vote when the Senate returns for business in September.
