Could someone please explain to me how the side pots work on Party Poker? I was playing a NL game and clearly won in a showdown with a full house. I collected the pot but my opponent (who had 2 pair) collected chips from 'side pot #1'?
Also, are side pots something of online poker only?
Any help would be appreciated

Let's say we have 3 players go all-in.
Player 1 has $100
Player 2 has $300
Player 3 has $50
The main pot will be player 3's $50, plus $50 from player 1, and $50 from player 2. Player 3 cannot win more than he put in the pot.
The side pot (side pot 1) will be made up of the remaining $50 from player 1 and $50 from player 2. Again, player 1 cannot win all $300 of player 2 when he only has $100.
The first pot to decide is the side pot 1. Players 1 and 2 look to see who has the best cards. Player 3 did not put any money in this pot so he is not entitled to win any of this pot.
After the side pot is determined, Player 3 joins in. Whoever has the best cards out of the 3 people wins the main pot.
If player 1 has a flush
player 2 has a straight
and player 3 has a full house
Player 1 will win the side pot. Even though Player 3s hand is better, he is not involved in the side pot, so he cannot win it. However, player 3 will win the main pot.

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Yes, they're used in both live and online poker - you can never win more money than you bet into a pot.
You're less likely to see it on TV since you usually only see the final table, and players are less likely to get involved in a three-way pot and risk their chips when a player stands to be eliminated (meaning everyone makes money since they move up a position in the final prizes).
