I've only been playing online for about 2 months and I'm down a bit, but I have spurts where I'll finish in the money in 5 or 6 SnG's in a row. Then I'll sit and get dealt rag after rag after rag... and of course watch as my folded 7,2 os turns into a full house (I know you love 7,2 Ripp, but it's not my favorite).

I think this is my main problem: I get bored and frustrated all to hell and back waiting for good hands, watching my rags turn golden, and other players gaining serious leverage on me, so I start playing questionable hands and end up in trouble.

I have much less trouble staying interested in live games, because there's more interaction and there's always something going on. But between the disconnects and waiting on the people playing 4 tables at a time, I start to lose focus, and start playing damn near anything just to get a chance to play.

Has anyone else had this problem, or is it just that I've gone on permanent tilt? And should I just start playing 3 or four tables to avoid the boredom?

HELP!!

Its a common problem with online poker.

I try to do something else while playing to try and keep active.

Some of the things I do
read FTR (like right now)
play 2 tables
taking notes on people

Try playing 2-3 tables at a time using the same strategy and playing premium hands on each one. You'll always have something to do. I usually get bored in live games as opposed to internet since you play less hands per hour.

live games aren't as bad because your studying other players at the table. Your chit-chatting with the guy next to you, looking at the waitress in the tight skirt

Thanks Ripp, but I'm not allowed to do that anymore. Last time I passed out, and when I woke up my stack was gone and my pants were around my ankles.

The kids thought it was funny, but my wife still won't speak to me.

Honestly, I think doing crossword puzzles early game has helped me a ton. I used to have the same problems of getting frustrated with bad hands and getting to agressive with average hands and getting in trouble. Now I just play the best hands fold the rest and do crosswords while I'm not playing. If I hear alot of chips going into a pot I'll look up and start watching whats happening

My thing to do when I’m not in a hand is to do chip tricks. I don’t know I just do them not thinking about it. I watch how people bet what hands, I think they have and when the show down comes I see if I got a tell off of them and if my hand read skills were right, when you can't play a hand yourself you can always watch other players for betting patterns (online/live) and tells(more live then online), but i still do chip tricks online to keep my mind on the game and the task ahead of me, it in live games can also gain you more respect from some players, usually the weaker ones. I had a pair once and I was doing a twirl and the guy laid down his two pair because he thought I had trips, partly because of my betting and the other I looked confident in my hand while doing the trick, hand was solid steady just doing the twirl, kind of funny really.

Playing in tournament tables i find it help to string the games along. figure about 40 minutes a table, so after 20 start a second table. when it works out i spend my time paying attention to the table with the higher blinds and play only strong hands on the other one... by the time one table is done the second table has higher blinds and it is time to start a third....

I do these things while I'm waiting in cash games...
1) Watch the competition - make certain you aren't the sucker.
2) Track my image - I keep track of the hands I've shown and think about how to go after the dead money.

The problem with doing other stuff is that you'll miss events that can change the flow of the game (new players, tilt-causing hands, smack talk).

These too mght seem boring---until you cash out at the end of the night...

I've tried plenty playing that premium hand. But the fact is, inevitably in some SnGs you may be dealt a premium hand only once or none, very rarely, but i had the honor to play a SnG where i wasn't dealt anything better than 99 and KTo. I think you can keep yourself busy enough within the game, and if you do, you may find youself ITM more often. If you mix poker with anything else and you still win consistently, i guess you must be a genius. Playing two ring game tables keep me busy enough, and one SnG table keeps me busy enough observing other players. But i did hear that some play two SnG tables simultaneously and they do very well.

I surf/read FTR when I play online, very helpful at times. 8-)
