Ok I play at home with the same group every monday and once and a while I go into torniments IRL. But I would like to get into online playing but know nothing of the ins and outs. Like rakebacks, raked hands nothing. I am reading each of the forums later tonight since my monday night is cancelled. Now for me I am not going hard I am planning on depositing $200US and playing $1/$2 table and maybe get into some online tourneys. Here are a few questions

1)Where to play?
2)What is a rakeback?
3)Any other helpfull info you can tell me. I want to have fun not get to screwed.....

Thanx in advance. Oh and whats this gauntlet thing here???

Stay the hell away from the $1/$2 tables if you are in fear of getting screwed.

given your bankroll, and you're just getting started with online play, i'd reccomend poker stars. you'll find (probably) that online is quite a bit tougher than your friendly local game. with $200 you're 2/3's rolled for .50/1.00 games, but you should probably start a little lower than that. you'll get an inital deposit bonus there at stars, once you get you're bankroll up to around $500 then i'd suggest bonus whoring. hold off on any other accounts unless you can deposit the max bonus. yes, it may take you a long time to get that much just grinding it out, but it's worth it. i didn't do a full deposit at party and i wish i could get that easy bonus back.

some sites will offer you a % of the rake that's taken back on a monthly basis. if you aren't playing 2000 hands of 2/4 a month, it's probably not worth it. they generaly don't give increments less than $50 bucks, so you need to be paying $200/month in rake. it's easy if you play a ton online, but it generaly requires a bankroll of around $1000 to make it worthwhile.

when you start doing your bonus whoring, pick a site to get rakeback at... just poke around, there are lots of sites that offer rakeback. the key is, once you open a NON rakeback account, you can never convert it to a rakeback account. (it might actualy be possible, but risky and hard)

play low stakes. play well within your bankroll. be cool, take lots of breaks.
playing online dosn't have all of the comradare of playing live with friends. usualy your friends will slow you down if you're tilting, that's why they are your friends. no such safety net online. only play when you *know* you're in control.

you'll see far more hands per hour online that you will live. i've gotten quads 3 times in one week. it's not rigged. it's random. when you play a lot of hands, you'll see wierd stuff happen more often. that can be confusing at first.

good luck, and welcome to the boards!

In the past I have played fake money at Pacific Poker. And I do not mind it. Would this be a good site to jump into?

FrequentFlopper.com for rakeback. Choose Absolute, since unlike the other rooms, you can clear bonuses and get rakeback at the same time.

Rakeback works like this......
say 6 people at table. Hand gets raked $1. You get 1/6 x 27.5% or 4.6 cents.

With all the reload bonuses at Absolute, you're basically getting paid 10 cents per hand to play.

Whileone gave it to you straight up. Stars is it for learning. I respectfully disagree about rakeback for low limits -- do it. $25 rakeback is better than zero. Read 'Rilla's link to bankroll management -- $200 can be gone in one day playing for dollars.

Pacific is 'fishy' -- that's good. And they offer a deposit bonus of 25% up to $100 -- that's good too. But if you go there with your $200 you'll get $50 bonus and leave $50 "on the table" -- a waste of half a signup bonus. Also, you may learn some bad habits playing Pacific. There is no rakeback for Stars or Pacific, so don't worry about it. Play one site at the lowest limits, then work up. When you have $500, move on some bonuses.
I'm a know-it-all.

No, really.

Well I signed up on Pacific last night. Enjoyed some 25/50cent tables and tried my hand at a few SnG. went into 3 of them and never placed but it was fun. After my first day I am down $45 and that was from the SnG(2 X 10+1 and a 30+3) So it was a good night and hopefully this weakend I will try a little more. If anyone here plays Pacific small tables watch ot for a DamienP thats me....

Even if you're a great live player, you're gonna go broke playing that far outside your BankRoll. Trust me, I learned the hard way too. If you're down to $155.00, you're best off grinding on micro tables for awhile. Especially if playing online is new to you.
m2c.

Good Luck, Jade!

Good Luck, Jade!

I am down $45 from my starting amount not down to $45. I deposited $200 got the $50 bonus so that is 250 and my balance is 205. So I thought that was alright for my first night. I will probably stay away from the SnG for awhile and play small tables.

Jade, Easy T is right. I think he understands you are not down to $45.

He is trying to tell you that 4 more nights like this one and your done. Time to get the old credit card out again for another deposit.

Ya I just have to stay away from the SnGs for now on the 25/50cent tables I was holing my own. Or even play smaller SnGs. I should never have played that 30+3 right away like that. But I appreciate the advice from all the vets here hopefully someday I will be able to hand out some myself...

As said above (which i think you missed) you really need to read this post.

http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=4971

If you don't have enough money for the stakes you play at then it doesn't matter if you can hold your own. Poker is a game of exerting small edges, and if you aren't properlly bankrolled you will probably lose it all.

For example i've found $1000nl tables that i could handle, but i don't have the bankroll so i play down at 100/200 No limit.

I got here late, but let me give you a few of my online game tips.

I started playing online very sparingly about a year ago. I began putting effort into it about three months ago. The first bonus I tried to do was at The Gaming Club. I dont even remember what it was now, but like with most bonuses, I figured I could play break even poker, tight as hell, and make money after a while. And I did...only (and here's where the cautionary tale starts) then I inadvertently got cocky and started playing more hands, drawing out more often even if I had the most remote odds possible, and my bonus disappeared in no time. Then I decided that it would be a good idea to play some tournaments to win something back. I thought it was an even better idea to buy in for 5-10 bucks at a time so when I won my BR would build faster. Needless to say, that didn't work either and probably because I was tilting hard from losing my bonus to begin with.

I have managed to level myself off now and I am playing fairly well at .50/1 limit and averaging about 10-12 profit a night. Playing VERY tight (group 0, 1 hands) and not drawing out for shit unless I have so many outs I can't count them all.

Just be careful and don't get too proud when you win a little money. The cards giveth and they damn sure taketh away!

good luck

Ya my problem is the damn SnG. I hold my own playing the regular tables but I try my luck in small SnG and I loose. Last night I tried a $10+1 and got to 4th place then started to be aggressive and lost out in 4th.... But at the end of the day I was $1 down from my day starting br. So I am slowly learning to stay away from SnG till I am ahead of the game a bit. I appreciate all the advice everyone is giving me. I am learning and I understand for the average person it will take awhile and am in it for the long haul. See ya on the river...

I think $10+1 is ok with a $200 Bankroll.

But I would recommend deciding what game you wanna play, and stick to it. You're still trying to get adjusted to online play. And it sounds like you're also constantly adjusting from Ring Games to Tourney or SnG. I would say pick one level of Ring, or one level of SNG and play ONLY that game until you're comfortable and profitable.

Why try to beat every game out there?

Again, Good Luck to you!!
