Just thought I would share some interesting news I just heard the other day. Here in North Dakota, (Yes, its friggin cold) there is a state representative trying to legalize internet gaming, thus luring companies like Party, Stars, and others back to the good ole USA. There supposedly would be some inherent tax advantages for these companies, as the US tax code is a little more freindly than that of these other countries. And best of all, you won't have to deal with that damn accent when you call, instead it will be more of a Canadian accent, eh. Just an FYI.

Put his/her name in here. He will get encouraging emails from a lot of players who would let North Dakota have taxes on the substantial rake they generate.

The name of the gentleman is Senator Jim Kasper. You can also contact Govenor John Hoeven or State Attorney General Watne Stenjehm.
Thanks

This guy is a smart guy. Why *wouldn't* a state want to do this?
Any reasons why this could be deemed as bad for North Dakota?

State laws aren't the problem (although they are a big problem in some states.) There are national laws that put online poker in grey market status until there is a court ruling or new legistlation.

More news today, there were hearings at the capital regarding the issue. Greg "Fossil man" Raymer was hear to speak of the benefits, got himself on the front page of the paper. there is some question of the legality according to the US Justice Department. I'm sure if it gets passed, it will end up being hashed out in the courts and such. I will keep you posted.

States hate online poker and any other gaming that is not a freaking rip off like the Lottery in most states.
The lottery here in Oregon is a huge rip off, and helps destroy thousands of families by putting in video poker machines in every bar. When local bars here try to have poker nights, (for fun, not money) the lottery commision comes storming in like Nazi's making sure nothing gets in the way of their monopolized video poker machines.

I guess thats where North dakota is a little different. There is already legal gambling in the state. Virtually every bar in the state will have a blackjack table or two. You can bet up to $25.00 per hand. Many of the bars also have what is called a pig wheel. In addition, there is a nlhe tournement virtually every weekend in some bar. The catch to all of this gambling is the each site has to be run by a non profit organization. In addition, I play weekly in a free poker league that is statewide. Its got a web site, pretty interesting, just do a google search for Dakota Poker League. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that North Dakota is already quite progressive on the gambling thing as it is, an this is something that would only benefit the state. The industry appears to be behind it, as there have been several big name players come to address our lawmakers on it. Just seems to be a fear that we would be promoting gambling then.
Huh?
We already have gambling in our bars, how is the internet going to make it worse? Anyway, there still working on it.

Our state is so ass backwards it is ridiculous.
Annie Duke recently moved here, (Portland) and tried to establish a
charity poker event to raise money for the Portland Public Schools, which I think her kids attend.
Anyways, the state said nope, they will not accept Gambling money.
The irony of these hippocrites is that schools are already funded by the lottery who are stripping idiots of their cash every day.
What a joke.
You can peep the news story here.

I'm just to the south in the "other dakota." Here too, they seem to be a head of the curve on gambling issues. I have B&M's near my house and live only 45 minutes from Deadwood. It's cold up here and full of Red-neck types, but up here they seem to be able to see the advantages of getting in on something as lucrative as the poker explosion.

Is it me, or is the chick in that avatar somehow winning the special olympics bikini contest in that picture?

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

The whole thing got voted down by the state legislature, but now theres talk of putting it on the next ballot to let the good people of north dakota decide whether or not we want all of this job creation, and tax revenue. I don't know, but right now I don't have a lot of faith in it happening. We'll see what the future holds, and I will keep you all posted.
P.S. This is the look she has right before the top comes off.
