In the last few weeks two very smart people who are keen poker players and whose opinions I respect a lot, have independently cited the same reason for why they prefer MTTs over cash games online.
Their problem is basically collusion - they think it would be very easy for a person or group of people, using multiple accounts, to all sit on a single ring table and collude to extract money from the other person or persons on the table.
To give you a specific example, I could sit in a university computer lab with four separate poker room accounts, log on to four separate machines and sit at the one 6-max table. I would then be at a huge advantage over whoever else sat down because I would know what other players are holding and adjust my calculations as a result, I could push them around, I could isolate and squeeze easily, I would have a greater chance of drawing out on a single villain, etc, etc.
Obviously with MTTs this is not possible because the seating changes throughout the tourney.
I must admit I never thought this much of a concern myself, especially at the micros, but having watched for it recently I have noticed just a couple of things at NL5 and NL10 that COULD suggest this is happening (for example, when 3-4 seemingly unrelated players all leave the table at exactly the same time).
I apologise if this issue has been raised before, but I wonder if it has been a concern for anyone else, and if so, whether there is anything the poker rooms can do or have done to combat it?

Basically it would happen for one night. As soon as most decent sites see that the same players are sitting at the same tables, night in and night out, shit would hit the fan. I am sure it's possible, but you would have to multi table, log in at different times and log off at different times. You would need to be depositing with 4 or 5 different methods all with different names and to top it off, do a ton of cover play anyway.
I really don't think I am stupid enough to sit at the same table with the same 5 guys over and over again and lose. And I doubt that the internet is filled with guys trying to pull this scam.

Some guy I knew tried to do this scam. He was successful, but said that it's better to just play normally because it's not worth it to collude. It's a small edge and the amount of time it takes to set up is not worth it.
When 3-4 players leave the table at the same time sometimes it's just that they don't want to play 5-handed so when the table starts to disintegrate and one person leaves, the rest leave because they don't want to put in the big blind.
