I'm a US player who had a Full Tilt account as of this afternoon and who is already feeling pangs & poker-withdrawal. Assuming that someday I'll be getting my $ back from FT (and I realize that's a big assumption, but thankfully I don't depend on my bankroll for survival), would this be a bad time to open a new account on one of the other US-"friendly" sites that weren't banned today?
I'm thinking that although it might soon away like Starts & FT just did and it may one day just not be available, there might be a an outbreak of really stooopid playing because people feel like their days are numbered, so what the hell, I'll shove middle pair on this wet board, screw it?
Also, is it just a pipe dream to think that maybe things will be different for Merge, etc., because they were not named in the recent DOJ lawsuit (as they were not engaging in bank fraud) and they'll stick around a while longer?

No one can say for sure, do so at your own risk.

I think I'm going to adopt a wait and see attitude.
I'd like to move my roll to one of the smaller poker sites, like PokerNordica to be able to keep playing but before that I should probably wait to see if any of the other US sites pull out of the market. It'd suck to make that move and then be blocked in a week or two.
We can't be sure that they weren't involved in some sort of fraud to get US players' transactions accepted. My assumption is that the DOJ took down the big dogs hoping that the small fries would run scared and fold up shop.

I've thought it myself too, but I think I'm going to give it a few months or even a year and see which sites are still US friendly. I can understand the withdrawals from poker you're feeling, but I'd be hesitant to deposit a small roll on another site right now, only that it could be seized/the site leaves US space voluntarily within a couple of months.

you may want to wait and see the outcome. Other than the guys on this site playing for a living \i think most of us should just spend some time reading, watching vids and getting some sun and exercise.

I think it would be a mistake to open a new account right now. The problem is that the DoJ didn't just go after the sites, they went after the payment processors as well. There's no way to tell if those payment processors are the same ones used by Cake/Bodog/etc.
I guess if you can get money on the site, it would imply that the payment processor is still active, but who knows if that'll still be the case when you go to get your money back off. I wouldn't put my faith in any US payment processors right now, because many simply won't want to risk it anymore if they are involved, and if they continue to stay involved, there's no reason to think they won't eventually get caught as well.
It's certainly possible you'd be able to keep playing on Cake without any problems, but I don't see any reason to believe that it's the most likely scenario.

They went after the people they had the case on. They an informant who apparently was not involved with any other site.
They were big dogs because, well, now we know why. They didn't go down for poker.
Evidently the other sites are in the clear but who know how they react.

The DOJ wanted to make a big statement. Shocking headlines. If they had had evidence vs. Cake, Bodog, whomever those sites would be in Stars' position now.
They would have loved "DOJ closes 500 online pokersites" as a headline.
Side note. Back when the UIGEA was passed, some officials at Stars said "we are conferring with our lawyers." It seems that they were actually conferring with bankers.

Yeah, wish I could learn to take my own advice. Hopefully I won't get shafted.
I recently deposited with Minted on the everleaf. 40% rakeback and god, those games are soft.

Personally I stake lots of players on a Merge Network Skin. I think the funds are safe however it is getting tougher to transfer to usa players. They also have longer cashout times.
