Is there any viable reason aside from prestige and technical reasons (like better software) why it's more beneficial for UK players to play at Pokerstars rather than any Eurodonk site?

I've heard that Pokerstars is the cheapest for low stakes (i.e. 25nl and below) in terms of rake, and that's fair enough.

But I've spent some time playing Stars, and I'm thinking that I would have been better off playing with Eurodonks at a site like Ladbrokes or Betfair, where at least my money is pounds rather than dollars. Spoonitnow seems convinced that I should play at Stars because it's the cheapest. But me, I can't see the logic of rake being the only thing one should care about, when all other things are stacked in my favour.

I'm pretty certain guys like Schwartz, Feldman and even the might Isildur built up their rolls playing Eurofish on sites like iPoker etc.

Any insight?

I haven't played 2nl at Stars, but is it actually possible that 2nl at ANY site could be tough to beat? I'm building up an initial roll on a eurodonk site, only because of the no-deposit bonus I got, but I'm thinking of moving over to Stars as soon as I have enough for 10NL.

And since when do you get prestige for beating 2nl at Stars?

Forget the stakes for a moment. I'm talking about playing at Pokerstars full stop when I'm talking about prestige. I.e. it and FTP are the most well known sites...that's ALL I meant.

It's well known for obvious reasons (or at least obvious to me) that Poker Stars and Full Tilt have the most difficult games at any stakes in comparison to other (Especially UK player saturated) sites - I don't care what people like Spoonitnow say. If he could actually play on sites like Sky Poker/Ladbrokes/Betfair, he'd understand.

AFAIK, and this is logical, you play where you can make the most money in the shortest amount of hands (over a decent sample of course). In my experience, PokerStars players make fewer mistakes and tilt less than the same level of player on sites that have no US players.

Thus, I can't see any logical reason for playing on PokerStars other than to improve as a player quicker, as you'll have to adjust to a better level of player. And that's true at whatever stakes you choose to play.

EDIT: Actually, as the player pool at Stars/Tilt is bigger, the opportunity to play 8+ tables is more available. THat of course depends on the volume you wish to play.

Me personally have found my current optimum amount of tables is 4. I still manage to get a decent amount of monthly volume considering I only play as a hobby. 29k hands last month and 6700 hands this month so far. I think that would even out to about 26000 hands in a month.

I think that Poker Stars is the best site in terms of software, game selection and customer support. I really like playing there, but I don't do so often, because the other sites are so much more donk filled in my opinion. And that is the most important factor for me.

i recently started grinding 2nl at absolute. the average table stats were like 16/14, even as low as 10/8. heaps of nitty short stackers, and 100bb max buyin so no super deep fish. compared to this 2nl on stars is so, so, so soft. granted i havent played on any "eurodonk" sites but honestly, 2nl at stars is so bad.

I recently played 30nl on Ongame and to say it was soft would be an understatement.

It was very soft.

Step 1: Figure the difference in rake
Step 2: Decide if your edge is more than that against supposed super donks at 2nl on euro sites
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Break even

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

I'm at Stars until 10nl.

Then I'll re-evaluate.
