I deposited $50 into PokerStars last night to get a feel for the interface and play (trying to get ready for the FTR Poker League!!). The first thing I will say is that I absolutely HATE the interface. It does nothing for me aesthetically. Also, I'm probably in the minority but I find the avatars extremely distracting. But after about 10 minutes I got used to it.
I played a couple of $.25/$.50 NL tables for about 30-45 minutes. I found the play to be much tighter than I am used to at Party Poker and InterPoker (where I have been playing recently). I actually don't mind playing at these types of tables although the play can get boring and multi-tabling is definitely in order. I left the tables up $20 mostly due to 2 hands. One where I had AQ and cracked the other guy's KK, the other where I had QQ and caught my set on the flop to again crack the other guy's KK. Other than those 2 hands I didn't see much in the way of cards. Although I did catch KK, an A flopped and another player raised my bet by about $14. I layed down my KK. I guess it wasn't a good night for KK on PokerStars.
The tables look sooooo much smaller with 9 players than with the 10 that I am used to. Still not sure that I really like that. But it is growing on me.
All in all, I would prefer to play elsewhere but you can't beat the flexibility that they give you for setting up personal tournaments so I will defintely deal with it.

It's the only reason our private tourneys are hosted at PokerStars. I don't play there otherwise.
If anyone knows of any other place that offers private tournaments with the ease and flexibility that PokerStars has, please let me know.

jm - on poker stars, look for a $.25/$.50 NL table that has a flops seen % of about 40%, and with only 5 or six players.
treat the table like you would a 6 max on party poker. you'll dominate the table, and be able to pick up a lot of pots just with a flop bet (if you raised preflop).
the only problem with doing this is that most poker stars players don't seem to like having someone that aggessive at the table, and if you're winning, the table will likely break up within a half hour.
then you just find another one!

Xianti, I know Paradise does private tournaments but have no idea if they are easily set-up or very flexible.

PokerSharks is fine. Probably the second biggest online poker room right now.

I'd try the turbo SNGs, JM. Force the rocks out of their element!
I generally don't like Poker Stars ring games.

I'm liking the turbo SnGs right now too. The smaller rake is nice, and with 1500 chips to start there still is some time to play poker before it becomes an all-in fest.
I hated the PS interface at first, but now I'm very used to it. Call me crazy, but I really liked Paradise's interface. I kind of miss it.

I basically turn off the avatars so it looks a little cleaner. I played for cash for the first time tonight at stars.
I thought the games were a little tighter here? Just as many chasers at the SNG's as there are at Party. I played three 5/.50 SNG's and only won one. So I'm good for the night.
Basically. After the OPT is over. I'm gonna close down alot of my other accounts and play Party and Stars exclusively.
I tell you. The OPT (Online Poker Tour) takes you to some pretty obscure poker rooms. That's why I asked Tyson and Eric about starting our own league. This way it can be at one andd one place only.

Paradise's private tourney options are actually quite nice, but they require a MINIMUM of 20 players for private tourneys. And our Mac users (such as strangebird) have trouble running Paradise's robust interface on their Windows emulators.
