What game/limit?

Overall, expect far worse/loose/passive/showdown play than online.

I've heard 2/4 online plays like at least 10/20 live. I've seen first hand that the Party .5/1 game isn't much softer than the local 4/8 game.

I'm hoping to get into an affordable (< $100) buy-in NL ring game, and/or a lower buy-in tournament (around $50, no more than $100).

So, assume people are playing more bad cards and chasing more?

Yup.

Expect play like the Party $25 NL and $5+1 SnG. Maybe worse.

If you ever manage to get yourself into a NL game, just play ABC poker and make em pay out the wazzoo.

Good luck

there are cheaper tournaments and ring games down on fremont street, but more fish on the strip. heard about a good $50 NL at Luxor not long ago too, might want to check it out. beware of the poker rooms everywhere on weekdays after about 2 AM, those guys are grinders and can eat you alive if you show any weakness, i've seen it happen. good luck man, and have fun.
"But they were suited?!?! You idiot!!"

I only played 2/4 and 4/8 limit in Mandalay and Luxor. It was the first time I played live, so essentially, I was the fish and just dumped a couple hundred bucks learning the ropes.

Mandalay, Luxor and Excalibur are all connected at the end of the strip and all are within easy walking distance, ie. w/i 1 mile. Bellagio is where the big names hang out and play big limits if you want to try to see a "poker star."

Don't make any assumptions until you sit in the game for a couple orbits. Overall, you will see a mix of LV locals/regulars and tourists. Hopefully, you will find yourself at tables with a larger ratio of tourists.

Just play at a level that is within your bankroll so you can play for your entire stay rather than bust out on the first night and find yourself dropping nickles in a slot machine mooching free drinks.
Send lawyers, guns and money - the sh*t has hit the fan!

This is so true. Live no-limit ring games are just as loose as the limit games. You just have to make it expensive for those that will continue to call with their draws (and they will).

Just play solid, tight poker and play the cards. Don't bluff.
You're not playing with seasoned players that understand (or care about) what you're representing.

Since live games are MUCH slower than online, I think people just don't like to fold since there just isn't much action.

*scratches head*

$200 is simple variance in either game.
