I had an interesting hand playing $2/$5 NL at Hustler ($300 max buy-in) while waiting for an 8/16 limit table yesterday. I think the most interesting part is the villain's call on the turn, but feel free to critique my play as well.

I am in middle position with Qs9s. I have a full buy-in of $300 in chips. The game has been a limp-fest, and 2 players limp in front of me, so I decide to limp as well. Guy to my left raises the pot to $20 (pretty small raise considering everything). 3 players call behind, plus the two original limpers and me, so we have six players to the flop and an approximately $120 pot after the drop.

Flop is AcJsTc. Everybody checks. (I don't see any profit in semi-bluffing my straight draw in this situation.)

Turn is 8c. Checks to me. I make a pot-sized bet of $120. The flush is out, I doubt anyone has it (though it is possible), I am getting some fold equity out of the fact that I might have it, and since there are probably clubs out there in someone's hand, I am protecting my hand with this bet.

Guy to my left, the villain, has $95 in chips left and calls my bet, which puts him all in.

Everyone else folds.

Guy to my left turns over pocket 9's with the 9 of clubs. River is a blank and I scoop the pot.

Now, my question is whether the guy to my left's call was a good call or not. What range should he put me on, limp-calling pre-flop, checking the flop, and then making a pot sized bet on the turn? Is pocket 9's with the 9 of clubs good against that range given the pot odds he is getting on his bet?

Pretty terrible call by him. He's not getting the odds to call, and may be drawing to less outs/dead.

You don't need to make a pot sized bet to deny people odds to call with whatever hand they have. Remember, you want them to make mistakes. Potting it just lets them properly fold their draws, and may even scare them out of calling with 2 pair.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.
