I was invited to a homegame on Friday and they said it was $30 bum. I asked what it meant and from what I understand, everyone buys in for $30 and if you go broke, you are still allowed to be involved in pots and have a chance to win. Is that correct? Sounds like it will be people playing every hand until they win a pot if they are broke, hopefully they can't initiate raises or anything with no money!

If anyone can elaborate on how this works I would appreciate it.

Lol! Bum Poker? Was it played in the rear? What were the rules concerning all-ins?

i think James McManus talked in his book about a setup like this.

If you bust, you continue getting cards. You can't bet or anything, but if your cards make the best hand you drag a certain % of the pot.

What a terrible idea. How do you bluff if you have to showdown every hand to win? ONLY with friends who aren't good poker players. They surely wouldn't play with me anyother way.

On the other hand, it becomes a great way to advertise your bluffs. Not as obvious to a thinking player that you're showing it just for the "call me next time" value when you're forced to do so.

Just talked to the person again, and the way they play is the broke person in the pot gets 100% of it if their hand wins. Not really crazy about that rule, but they acted like it is pretty rare because once they win one pot they have money to play again. I guess I will just have to make sure not to bet to strong when there is a bum in the hand.

that sounds like a really weird rule. so the bum is along to hang around as long as he wants? this might be cool if it was a one hand thing or something

I attended the game last week and all I can say is it was a joke. 7 people playing dealers choice, so you would just play one hand of say hold em and then go on to the next game. They would have everyone ante in every game, betting/raising out of turn etc etc.

I haven't played in a home game in years (play limit hold em at the casino a couple times a week usually), and probably will continue to avoid them after this experience. I like playing cards with at least a small level off organization.

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
So basically you play an entire tournament, and when it gets down to the last hand headsup everybody is getting cards and whoever has the best cards wins it all regardless of the fact that they busted out ?
