Hello everyone, new here but i love the site and look forward to getting a chance to play against you all. I am looking at purchasing a set of chips for home games, and dont want to spend too much ($250 max). I have played alot of online poker but want a set of chips as close to those used in casinos, as possible. Any suggestions? I see the ones advertised on this site - are the chips plastic or are they clay - whats the difference, etc. Any preference?

Thanks

Here are the chips I bought.

Las Vegas Premiere Chips

They are not plastic and have a very clay feel to them. Most other sites charge $15 for a roll of 50. So you don't save much, but savings is savings. And if you order through the link at pokerlistings.com you get 20% off.

Sorry Xianti if it sounds like Spam. Just giving him some info. Plus alot of the other 9 gram chips don't have the $500 or $1000 chip. So you get some flexibilty with these. And a 500 pcs. set would only set you back about $139 w/o shipping and handling.

Thanks for the info. Not to sound too dorky, but another major reason for purchasing chips is to do chip tricks - without knowing much about them, would the set you are referring to be good for tricks?

THanks

I would say yes. Just about the same weight as casino chips.

so the difference between 13, 11.5, and 9.5 gram chips is just weight, not size right? Does weight have a big impact on ability to do tricks? Im also a juggler where weight definitely influences the ability to manipulate. Thanks again for all the info, pretty stupid im sure, but hey i had to ask.

Thanks

Yeah. All chips are about the same diameter. It's really a matter of personal taste. Since most Casino chips are 10 grams. People like to have that weight.

Also chip tricks vary according to the type of material the chips are made of. The composite are a lot more plastic than clay. So they tend to be a little slicker. Composite makes up the majority of your 11.5 chips.

Since you are a juggler. You already know to train with what you work with.

You're very welcome. When you first get the chips. Some may stick together. That is some of the adhesive from the labels that bled through.
All you have to do is wipe it away with your finger or a cloth. Good luck and happy gaming with your chips.

hehe, you have inspired me. I'm going to go home today and crack out my juggling balls for an hour

30 mins of 3 and 30 mins of 4. Havn't a clue how to do 5 I think the ceiling isn't high enough.

Any tips on doing 5?

Also, do you juggle balls or skittles ? If skittles how hard are they to learn ? I almost bought some but they were about $50.
Poker is all about the long long long long long long long term . . .

Skittles $50 bucks? Man candy sure is expensive over there. I can get a bag of Skittles for under a dollar here in the states.

Toasty - Glad you are inspired! LOL. At one point when i was about 16 i was AWESOME at juggling, then i stopped. Now im 26 and recently started again and am getting it back pretty quick. 5-Ball juggling is the same cascade pattern as 3-Ball, but throw twice as high and twice as fast - good luck, it was the bane of my existence for about a year

Fyr - The chips rule! ONLY 3 MORE DAYS TILL THEY ARE DELIVERED!!!!! I got the set for 139 from poker chip mart. Im currently in the running with like 3 different home game circles, depending on how large they all get, i may get some more of the 500/1000's. In the pictures, are those KEM cards? Do KEM cards really make that much of a difference?

Yes they are KEM's and YES they are the bomb!! Ask anyone who has them. Accept no substitutes. They are without a doubt the best cards for thorough shuffling.
