Went to one of our local casinos yesterday. They have a daily tournament every morning at 9:00 am. It's tough for me to get to such an early game. But I finally had a chance yesterday. I made a ouple of small mistakes, but overall, I had a great time.

The structure is nice. $20 buy in, $3 more gets you double the starting chips. You would be a fool not to get the add on. And they allow re-buys up to the first 1/2 hour. The play wasn't too crazy. There were a couple of all-in hands when the re-buy time was about to expire.

From the start I was pretty tight. The first hand I played hard was KK. UTG limped, UTG+1 raised. I was UTG+2 and I re-raised. It was folded around to UTG. She re-raised. UTG+2 folded. This got me scared. I always fear a limp-raise. She raised it to 1,000 and this would have taken about half my stack. I seriously thought about throwing it away. But I couldn't acurately put her on AA. The whole casino aspect made me a little nervous, but I realized that I can't toss KK pre-flop without a 100% read. So I called. Flop came and I had an overpair. She checked and I thought about taking the free card, but fearing that an A would come, I bet it out. She called. K on the turn gave me a full house. She went all in and I knew she had AK. I called and showed KK, she showed AA. I took the pot and sucked out on AA.

Later I made more and more, increasing my chip count. I even had a Rippy hand. I am button. It is folded around to me. I raise 3XBB. SB and BB didn't know this, but I was in the dark. They folded and I started to muck my cards, but I couldn't resist looking. 32o.

I had KK once again. 2 short-stacks went all-in ahead of me. I already hated to take my hand 3-way, and I didn't want to put it 4 or more. So I raised all-in. One had QQ and the other had A6. My KK turned into a K high flush and I took the whole pot and knocked 2 people out.

Here is the big hand that I keep thinking about. THis is the last hand.

There are 6 people left. I am 6th in chips. I have about 12,000 with #5 having about 13,000-14,000. SO I am not down by much. BB is 2,000. I am delt K7s.
Everyone folds to me. BB has about double my stack. I would try a blind steal, but he is pretty loose and he wants to take someone out to get in the money. I decide that I can't blind steal. I limp in.
Flop comes :Ks: :Td: I feel I have the best hand, so I want a call. I put out a minimum raise. He calls.
The turn is and I am sure I have the best hand, but I am scared of the river bringing another
I go all in, he quickly calls and flips over with a made flush. I don't catch any of my 4 outs and I go home just out of the money.

I can't help but analyze that last hand. I feel I was not in a position to blind steal. So that wasn't a bad decision. I had no information to put him on any hand after the flop. So wanting a call was not a bad decision. But if the hand was full of good decisions, how come I feel like I made the mistake?

Oh well. I still had fun. And I'm off to do it again this morning. I'll give you an update when I get back. This time I'm getting revenge. I'm bringing my ringer with me... Mrs. Humphrind.

whenever there's a 2 flush showing, don't assume no one has a draw for that. make the pot sized bet.

and sometimes you can't help but get screwed...like in this hand. in the gauntlet yesturday i had AA, and i raised 3 or 4x the bb, and get called. 88x comes, my gut tells me that someone out there probably has an 8. but i already decided to go all in whether they call me or not preflop. surely enough someone flips over 88.

Went again to the poker tournament. It is so much fun. I can't stop. First, I love the idea of going to the casino to play poker. But they also have nice everything. Nice chips, nice cards, nice tables, their own dealer. It's what tournaments should be, and it's only a $20 buy in. THey have other options at other casinos that I think I may try out soon. But they aren't so great. $100 freezeouts, $50 limit tournaments, $200 sattelites to the WSOP (this is freezeout/MTT like Rippys recent big tournament)

I am doing this as often as I can. It's a ton of fun. On the last one I had a bad showing. 1 person just ran over the whole tournament, some people called him Eric, I called him a brick wall. My friend went with me, and the 1s hand they went at it. AK vs AQ and Eric took out my friend with the better hand. Eric took me out 2 hands later, I had pocket 4s triped on the flop, he had pocket 5s triped on the flop.

But I am sure I will go back this weekend at some time. I just have to find out my next open morning.

Oops. It wasn't the 1st hand of the tournament, it was the 1st hand after Eric moved to our table. About the middle of the tournament.
