This might sound stupid dumb obvious but thats because it is. But i see this mistake all the time. People playing online are expected to know about pot odds, implied odds, percentages the works. The problem that a lot of people come to is when they play live and dont have a computer screen telling them how much is in the pot already. When the action turns to you and you take time to count the pot and figure the math in your head this throws up a flag to everyone that your on a draw. I know this seems like a mistake no one would ever make but they do. If you wanna play with odds then you need to know the size of the pot, but instead of counting it out when your in the spotlight add up everyones calls, bets, and raises as soon as they make them. By doing this you can hide your drawing hand and give yourself options of stealing the pot and even making more money when you hit your hidden draw.
Again i know this is a obvious tip so im sorry but iv seen it way to many times in live games not to say anything.

I often do this before the flop is delt or if I intend to bet. I don't consider it a tell because I'm almost always figuring out how much I want to bet.

I used to think this, but then I got into the habit of legitimately taking the same time to plan bet sizes with made hands plus doing pot odds over and over along with already knowing the pot size will cut down on the time to make calculations.
