This talent comes easier to others, but I am one of the few who wasn't blessed with this ability.

anyone can make me laugh/smile/blink ect ect just about anytime they want. I think the only thing that saves me is I pretty much act the same whether I'm holding AA or 7/2..

Anywho..

Anyone have any tips/tricks for keeping a straight face? In your head while your bluffing are you thinking about something totally off topic? Or can u naturally keep your face totally straight.

Any imput would be great..

Go the other way. Since it's so easy for you, always maintain a goofy/imature/clueless look (ala Mike Caro, its worked wonders for him). As long as you are fairly consitant, it should work
Is that guy still part of the forum??

After reading "Super System" and Mike Caro's Book of Tells, I have considered being just a nutty b$stard at the poker table..

I guess I have never really had the guts to pull it off. I can imagine also that it would be rather hard to read tells/concentrate on playing your concentrating on being insane.

who knows though, i'm going to vegas in March maybe i'll give it a try.

whatever you do, don't act serious. don't let others know you're thinking. in fact, be as social as possible. people don't mind losing pots to social people (the good kind) as much as losing to someone who didn't say a word the entire time with glasses and a cap on.

I resemble that remark!

Actually, I do hide behind my ballcap and keep my hand over my mouth, but that's only when I have REALLY good cards.

Anyone want to come play this weekend?

In all seriousness though, I think consistency is the key -- be a goofy monkey, or be a stoic chunk of granite, but do the same thing as nearly as possible.

i think the best way to rid yourself of "excited" tells when you have a monster is to play a few thousand hands of poker online. by then you will have flopped so many nut flushes and boats you will be emotionally unaffected by it.

until then, just go ahead and act blatantly happy about your hand at the table. people will assume you are full of shit, or if they suspect you really have a hand, they will be curious enough to call you down. works for me EVERY time. if i get dealt aces, i'll say "WHOAH" and still get action on my raise. the guy with KQo will figure he has a shot at taking you down and will call.

I just act like I dont pay attention. If there is a TV on I start watching or sing along to a song on the stereo. Its kind of funny to see someone stare at you trying to get a read and you are wathcing a game on TV. Throw in a "Why did he take that shot" or "Why was he swing at that pitch" and they wont know what to do

cmg, i hate to say it, but when a guy is in a hand but seems to pay no attention to the game, either watching TV or staring at imaginary butterflies, that is THE classic tell that he is sitting on a monster. for god's sake, do not do this against any semi-aware opponent.

when you have a monster hand, you want calls. everyone at the table is looking for a reason to call. you just need to give them one. talk shit, tell them your hole cards, knock over your chips, do anything that will make them suspicious or curious enough to call. the worst thing you can do is freeze up, look away, or stare them down.

i am young and like playing against older fellas...

i just act like i barely know what im doing..lose a few big hands here and there but keep a resonable stack....then when i do get the monster i can almost always tripple up....do the same things i did when i lost the last hands...or throw out a bet nice sized and then act puzzled and re look at the community cards and ACT......i have a unbelievable acting talent that cant be read.....i only been playing poker for 4 5 months so it has taken me a long way so far....i dont keep a straight face or a happy curtious face....I keep a puzzled face or what i like to call a "Tilt Face"

oh yeah,i have big ears ahahah i think that has led a few people to callme also they will be like...man i got this big eared pimple face kid beat "Im All In"...then me call...then them...%#&%*%@^%)@&#*&&^%@^!$

I would have to agree with the light hearted mood. If you can do the straight face, then great! Go with it. But not perfected it will loose you hands. Just do what feels natural.

Everyone remember Dan Harrington's bluff from the wsop 2004 at the final table with the 6, 2o? It made me smile just looking at him. Stone cold. If you can perfect something like that, not only will you not give a read but you will also intimidate.
