Im gonna be in Vegas the end of august, I really want to try and get on a poker table. I generaly play no limit and thats what id like to try, but im not sure how it works at a casino. Can soemone help me out with some of the options? Is there a certain buy in, and then you go from there? If you're at a tale for a while, can you just get up and leave? Also, what are some good Casinos to play in, or even which casinos to stay away from?Any information is appreciated...

Casinos mostly spread limit games. No limit tournements are available daily in most rooms. I have never played NL ring game in a casino but I have heard that there are more and more games opening up.

Bellagio and Mirage are the biggest card rooms with many good players/pros. Luxor, Excalibur and Mandalay Bay are at the end of the strip and each has poker room. You can walk to each one without going outside. Since they are so close you can check in on each of them re: tournaments/NL ring games and get a seat without too much travel/taxi $.

Your best bet is to call around to save energy.

Your best shot is a low roller casino, like on of those on the edge of the strip. I played in one where they raked 5% max 3....UNBELIEVABLY LOW!!! I made a killing playing tight/weak there...so many chasers. It was limit 3-6-9.

NL in casinos is really different. They usually have $100 buyins with blinds looking something like 2-4 or 1-3. These tables are very difficult to make money on because players are so tight. Most of the time you'll simply be stealing the blinds. They're sorta played like limit games, imho, expect fewer chasers. However, if you could get on a sweet nl table with a lot of chaser (good luck) you'll probably come home with 3-400 bucks.

And btw, the nl tables at Binions rake 10% (buyin is unlimited) with 1-2 blinds. So if you can get some puts to go all in for $200, and you call, you lost $40 on that pot. I would never play there. And their tourney entry fees are unreal.

Avoid tourneys at low roller casinos...they don't structure them correctly.

Sit on a nice ring game at low roller, and you'll clean up. Rule of Thumb: Sharks avoid low roller casinos, cause the limits are too low, and you can't bluff at pots, so they tend to avoid low stakes.

i have played two days back to back at the Commerce Casino in LA.

Here is the game structure.

$100 max buy in NL game
Can rebuy for $100 Max if your current stash falls below $50

Blinds 2/3

I found this game to be incredible loose. Tonight I played like a rock, only played PREMIUM hands and with my $100 buy in walked out with over $500 in my pocket. There were probably 2-3 good players at my table and I stayed away from them. However, the fish at the table dumped on average 3-500 before going home. I'm going to vegas in 2 weeks and hope to find a similar type game.

I heard Bellagio is good because all the tourists and fish who never play casino poker try their luck there. Living in LA I am used to having over 1000 live poker tables available to me within a 20 minute drive.

You ought to post a review of Bellagio. I've never been there, but it sounds easy to "clean up." (The fish don't school there, do they?)

P.S. I would've thought Binion's would have been the place for the fish to flock to, but Bellagio really is where tons of fish hang out...must be the "strip" mentality.

I will post a review of all the casinos I play in vegas when i get back. I'm looking to play at Bellagio, Binions, and probably Palms, I'll be looking for low stakes NL action.

Went back to Commerce today and got clocked. Again, table was loose, but this time it backfired on me. I experienced a $700 swing tonight with my $100 buy in.

I bought in for $100 and after three hours of tight play had $650 in front of me. I'm thinking, WOW I made $1000 dollars profit in 3 days, at $100 NL, can this be right??? AM I just that GOOD???? Is it time to go home or is it time to TEAR VEGAS A NEW ONE?????

Then slowly but surely the card demons got a hold of me. I tried to stay tight and jump in with only premium hands, but lost three large hands in a row.

Trip 8's on the flop, player behind me goes all in and turns over trip 8's but I have high kicker. Player behind me hits his low kicker on the river and I lose $150.

Very Next hand, I raise preflop $25 with suited face cards, hit top two pair on the flop. Bet $50 and get called. Turn comes junk. Bet $100, get called. River comes low club and I lose $175 to a flush with opponent staying in on 6-3 clubs!!!

Next hand after that, I am starting to tilt a bit, dealt pocket 5's in big blind, normally I would dump this hand but I'm in the blind and flop hits me with a set of 5's. Decide to slowplay my trips on the flop to keep in the trash and low and behold, my opponent hits runner-runner to complete his A-10 Straight!

After that, I'm at the ATM and paying out the tables for the next 2 hours.... Oh well, that's POKER!!!

All in all, I'm down $200 bankroll after three consecutive days, with $1000 swing. Thank goodness I have a job or I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight

I think there are a lot of fish at Bellagio, because a lot of people who have a lot of money stay there, and they're willing to give it away trying their hand at poker. Of course, from what I've heard, all low limit poker in Vegas is full of fish, no matter where you go. Actually, I bet almost any casino nowadays that has low limit poker, it's full of fish.

I've been able to play NL at Monte Carlo, Palms and Bellagio. My vote for the nicest poker room was Bellagio. Big room, non-smoking, $200 max and min buy-in, players were mostly tourists with multiple tables going. However, I wasn't able to make much money there. But then again, I've never won money at Bellagio, even when I used to play BJ for hours on end.

The Palms is good, but usually they will only have one NL table going during the day. $100 min buy-in, $500 max buy-in. I found that there were mostly locals playing on the table and they all buy in for the max amount making it more difficult to bluff them out. They also tend to bet very aggresively and often on cards that were less than great. I played there in July on a Thursday night and won $600 in 2-1/2 hours.

NL at Monte Carlo usually means only one table going and they usually one have it on Friday and Satrudays. When they have the table going, it's usually full of tourists.

I'll be going to Vegas on Aug. 19-21 and am staying at Harrah's. I'll probably try to check out the Mirage since it's basically across the street.

How old do you have to be to sit at a card/poker table in a casino?

18? 21?

I turn 18 in December, and am actually itching to play in a casino.

All I care to play is no limit texas hold 'em, though.

It depends on the laws of the state. In Las Vegas, you have to be 21 to play. Some states have casinos on Indian reservations, usually these are open to people 18 and over. Some of these have card rooms. Most (if not all) non-Indian casinos are 21 and over, in the US at least.

Ok so i got back from Vegas today and haven't slept in over 30 hours. Here is my review. In my previous post above, I promised that I would write a review of all the card rooms I played - my plan was to play at Palms, Bellagio, and Binions.

Well, I never made it to the Strip, and never made it to the Horseshoe. I did, however play at Palms for two sessions, about 3 hours each session.

Palms has a very small card room, at least by my standards. Again, I'm used to Commerce Casino, which has close to 100 + tables. The room itself was nice, but I figure they only had between `12 - 15 tables. They only have three games consistantly at the Palms. 2/4 structure, 4/8 structure, and a NL $100 Min / $500 Max buy in game.

The first night I played at Palms, the table was full of very loose / passive tourists. I only was able to make about $20 for my time. I started to get bored with the game and played numerous starting hands that I shouldn't have gotten mixed into. Perhaps the lack of sleep and playing at 5AM affected my level of discipline.

The next night, however, was a VERY eye opening experience. I played 4/8 and found myself in the middle of a SHARK TANK. At my table, friday nigt about 8 pm, I was one of only 3 tourists at the table. Everyone else was local to vegas with PLENTY of playing experience. The locals I went up against were very tight, aggressive, and knowledgable of the game. Never showed their down cards unless forced to, and very smart players. I lost $100 in 3 hands. I requested an immediate table change, but decided to play with these characters primarily to observe and learn. I befriended an old geezer named Tony next to me with 20 years experience, and I'm glad he did because he pointed out to me all of the local players.

All in all, I lost $60 in my two sessions of poker. The local players I found to be very good sports, but vicous card players. When they have the best hand, they will punish you and play aggressively. When they have the worst hand they get out early and never let themselves get trapped. All in all an enjoyable experience.

In summary, tho I thought the Palms was a nice card room, I suspect there are far far better places to play in vegas with more variety of games and fish elsewhere.
